I was a smoker also for 10+ yrs...I quit the day after I found out I was pregnant...cold turkey. I read that the chemicals from the cigarettes basically cling and absorb to the amniotic sack and reach the baby. True or not, it was enough for me to not stress about wanting another cigarette. This is my first, I'm 22wks..my sister smoked once in a while with her second, she was 6wks premature and had severe digestive and breathing problems. She also had asthmatic symptoms and alost like a smokers cough every winter...my sister quit, my niece is now healthy and plays soccer. Her breathing is near perfect

You are not a bad person at all. Some doctors tell you not to just quit cold turkey because it could affect your stress level and harm the baby. They say cut back. I smoked with my first baby and she was the biggest baby out of all the babies born in my family. My daughter is two now has no health issues is very smart and perfect in every way.

You are already a wonderful mother! Don't listen to the negativity here! Talk with your doctor and listen to yourself! A lot of people are going through what you are, and that does not make you a has person. Its easier on you and baby to cut back on smoking. By doing so it will ease the physical stress and your mental stress aswell. If you stop you stop if you don't you don't. as long as doc says baby and you are okay! Cheer up and Enjoy being prego!!

Your not a bad person when I found out I was pregnant I struggled too but I took it one day at a time and now I have not smoked in almost 2 months. Give yourself a goal and just keep it there also if you read the effects of what it does to the baby because I read alot too that will help you too. You can do it. I thought I couldnt but its not so bad not smoking :-)

I dont think your a bad person but I know you must feel hella guilty. I have smoked for 9 yrs and then had a M/C in October and when I founf out I was blessed enough to get pregnant again in December I knew I needed to quit it is so hard but it can be done honestly you have to have support and prayer because it is an addiction!  But just keep reminding yourself why your quitting and try to  break it down I have a saying I used "better than I was yesterday" try to do better each day that will help the guilt and the baby and you too after all we want to see our kids grow up I feel ur pain n wish u  good luck !!!!

I smoked from age 14-24 when I found out I was pregnant. Once I took the test that was jt , no more. I love being able to take a deep breath and not have my lungs hurt. I want to be a role model for my children so I'm done. Do I miss it, sometimes but is it worth it to stop, yes!

I've never smoked and honestly think its a nasty and disgusting habit. I have many friends who smoke and have smoked during pregnancy. I think its amazing that your first born is healthy and doing well. How ever if you are feeling bad then you should probably quit. As mentioned above the chemical in cigarettes aren't good for baby or you. I'm sure its a hard habit to kick but in the end its the healthiest thing for you and baby. Good luck.

When I found out that i was pregnant i stopped didn't wanna risk making my child sick because i felt the need to keep doing something the doctor even recommends us to stop doing not all babies are healthy after being exposed to smoke it can cause problems with weight breathing development it's safer to stop but hey your baby your choice

Idk even as a smoker I guess I don't feel the way you do. I smoked for years. And as soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped cold turkey. I don't get how anyone could smoke while pregnant. Your giving your baby all those chemicals. But I guess I'm the odd one out.

Contact Ashline they can help and usually for free or Talk to your dr. I smoked 10 plus yrs too. Its harder for some us no matter what the circumstances are. I know what its like to have the dream of quitting but not being able too. Maybe you have a friend that can quit with you, it helps to have someone who is going through the same feelings. Good luck to you!

My sister smoked her entire pregnancy. Up until she had to have an emergency c section at 32 weeks and had a 2lb 6 oz baby. It's not healthy. He child has a million things wrong with her. She has breathing treatments daily and hard time talking at 2 almost 3. Could be due to prematurity but could have allot to do with smoking. Babies tend to weigh less also. Do some research in the subject. Some babies can come out no problems, some not so lucky. At least cut way back but just remember everything you do your baby is doing too.

You will have health problems. I know its hard to quit, I gave it up after 3 yrs for my pregnancy. Ive been coughing up my lungs for months now, its disgusting. Your judgement of yourself is what really matters. If you feel like your being a bad mother, u should quit.

Your not a bad person. I smoked with my first child and he was very healthy and still haven't had any health problems. This pregnancy I smoked for 3 months. My son made me feel guilty. So I quit. My husband also quit too. He took a lot longer but now my baby girl is almost here. I plan on sticking with not smoking anymore but I feel I'm going to slip up. I was a smoker for 16 years. Started when I was 16.I have faith you'll be able to quit.
