We are military and depending how far along you are he may not be away during your pregnancy. He would have to do several test and get a basic training date. Now, he may be gone for basic training, but that would be for 4-6 weeks. I, personally, love that my husband is in the air force- we both are. Yes there is the possibility of deployments and the uncertainty of when, where, and for how long? You're not sure how long you will remain at one location, but the pros outweighs those cons. You have job stability, career opportunity, benefits, experience and the chance to explore while moving around. So, for us, we love that my husband is in the military. If you have any further questions you can always message me. Good luck and best wishes!
If I remember correctly there are no living arrangements or anything for you if you are not married. Once married you should be able to live on base with him, but I believe that depends on where he is based and if they have base living or not. I wouldn't stress to much, my hubby joined the army right after we started dating and it was hard but we made it through it. He is out now so I don't have the worry of going through pregnancy without him. Do you have a good support system that could help you while he is away? That will be important. Good luck!
I think it's great. My husband is in the army and will be going on his 13th year. I absolutely love it, he works during the week for the national guard and then had drill once a month, so no moving around for us. And then of course every now and again he has to go away for classes and the annual training. But it's all worth it in the end, good luck!!
You won't get anything unless you and your childs father are married..my husband is active duty army..I wasn't able to get any health care or a house or anything else they offered until we were married..my husband is getting out of the army soon because his contract is up in a few months..it's hard because we are always moving to different states we are constantly away from family..I haven't seen my parents or anyone else for that matter in almost two years..everything aruth said is right on point..but also if he has other training he signs up for it could be longer wait to be able to see him
Training won't be 4-6 weeks. It will be more like 8-12 or more depending on how he does during training (if he graduates on time) then add an additional couple weeks for job training. Until you're a wife you won't be accomodated. The military doesn't recognize girlfriends. Your child can be covered under his insurance though (tricare). Any questions let me know.
My husband was in basic training for 6 weeks, as I previously stated. I forgot you did say you two are not married, so yes the other ladies are correct and you will not receive benefits from the military.
If your boufriend tests well & moves through the process quickly, he could be gone for most of your pregnancy. My sister just joined the Army within the last year. Once her medical waiver went through for a rare eye condition that has no effect on vision, she left for basic within 3 weeks. Basic Training for Army is 8-9 weeks and then AIT training s 15-18 weeks depending on what MOS he goes in to. Its a little shorter for Air Force and I believe a little longer for the Marines. I haven't any idea what training times are for Navy. My sister completed her AIT training and was deployed to Seoul, Korea two weeks later for a full year. Unless you & your child's father are married, you will not receive a housing allowance or other benefits beyond your child being able to be added to his insurance (which is about the best you can come by with all of the current insurance changes since the Affordable Healthcare Act threw a wrench in the gears.) I believe there are also regulations in place for how long you have to be married before Basic in order to receive benefits.
