That study was discredited. Some parents choose to delay it since it is a live vaccine. My 3.5 year old got it on time, no issues. And many schools just require a couple forms signed if you are choosing not to vaccinate your child.
Please, please do your research from valid sources!! Its important to know both the risks of vaccinations, and the risks of not (which in my opinion, are much greater, both individually and on a larger scale).
I heard this a few months ago also, but a lady I know who has an autistic child said that there is no way the vaccine can give a child autism. She said that both parents must be carriers of the gene for it to be possible for a child to be autistic. I don't know much about it personally, but I'm sure she does as she has been to many specialists with her son and she is very involved in his therapies.
There are no studies that have found correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism. There was one kooky scientist...ONE... who was later discredited. There were many many flaws in his study but because of that every parent that doesn't thoroughly conduct research using VALID sources is horrified. I work in public health and I am also currently in school. I actually just finished a research study/paper on childhood vaccinations. There is no real link between MMR vaccine and autism. The only thing that was a cause for concern with childhood vaccinations was a mercury based preservative called Thimerosal. Studies Even showed that that didn't even have a direct link with an increased chance of autism developing in children but just to be safe the FDA banned it from being used in childhood vaccinations. I believe by 2001, if not earlier, all childhood vaccinations no longer contained that ingredient. I'm sorry this is so long but it drives me nuts when parents are scared to protect their children by giving them a vaccination because of a misconception.
