No fetal heartbeat detectable at 5 weeks 6 days ultrasound

I had my first ultrasound (with the vaginal wand) and they estimated me to be at 5 weeks 6 days. I did in vitro. They confirmed the presence of a gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal dipole, but could not detect a heartbeat. Is 6 weeks or less too soon to see this? They counted 6 weeks back from the first day of my lmp, but they thought I might be running a little small.  I am worried that something is wrong! I have my second ultrasound next Thursday, and have read that sometimes it takes up to 10 weeks to detect a heartbeat. Also, my acupuncturist recommended that I use a heating pad (on low heat) on my abdomen as a sort of "incubator". Now I am worried about the electromagnetic waves being harmful. Please advise! This is my first pregnancy, and after what we went through with IVF (a blessing, but very draining), I am about exhausted with worry! I don't want to be a basket case by the time my next ultrasound comes around!  Any advice you can give would be great! THANK YOU!

I'm not sure if these posts help me or make me worry more. I thought I was 7 weeks but today my doctor did an ultrasound and said I was 6 weeks. He said everything looked good, he could see the fetal pole but there wasn't really a heartbeat yet. I did see a very tiny flickering. Maybe that's the beginning of a heartbeat?? He wants me to go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. I'm scared half to death, I've never had a miscarriage before. What do you all think? Is 6 weeks to early to detect the heartbeat?

I am supposed to be a little over 6 weeks, Went in today to my first OB appt. They did a vaginal ultrasound to see how far along I am. And no heartbeat. She is very worried and scheduled me to come back in one week and try again. If no heartbeat then, she said something may have went wrong in my pregnancy.

Thanks so very much for all of your posts.   Last Tuesday, my husband and I went for an ultrasound.  We thought that we were 8 weeks, but we were told that we are 6 weeks, close to 7.  We were also told that there was no heart beat possibly because a fibroid was growing very close to the baby.  We were told to come back in a week.

I was really scared but decided to pray and ask God for a miracle and His will.  This week has been hard, but good because it has helped us to focus on God's will.  Your posts have given me more faith.  Thank you.

i had u/s at 8 wks 2days after ivf cycle. 2 fetuses were found only 1 with a hb. Also 3 other gestational sacs were found, 2 empty and 1 with a yolk sac. This they said puts me at a high risk of m/c. They want us back for another u/s on mon 18th. Both my partner and i find this very confusing having found 5 gestational sacs altogether 2 with fetuses 1 with a yolk sac and 2 that r empty. Cannot find anything on the net to read up on. BTW we only had 2 eggs transferred. I would be glad of any support from anybody that has possibly gone through similar as they told us its rare. Thanks
