Hi, I only just found out I'm 5 wks. We have been planning to fall so I started taking folic acid 500mg about a Month ago. Went to the dr today to confirm the pregnancy, she said stick to the folic, if I think I'm not eating enough dairy or vegies then to consider taking another multivitamin. Basic common sense she said. She also suggested Taking the multivitamin if I'm having an off day and don't feel like eating much. Exciting times ahead. I read up on alot of prepreg tabs and it was so confusing, I have decided to stick with the basic folic  acid and focus on dairy and vegie I take. I figure there are plenty of other mums out there who don't plan a pregnancy and so therefore dont take a vitamin pre conception and then only start taking it a Month later, so im not stressing. If I ate unhealthy or was not fit I would consider them.

Even with a pretty healthy diet you will probably not get enough folic acid and other nutrients, so it's quite important to take some prenatal vitamins.
I don't need an iron supplement but that depends, they should check your blood and tell you how your levels are.

Some women get sick from their prenatals, but I heard that's not very common. I never had any issues.

However, my Ob told me that it's best to take a prenatal vitamin that's food based because your body is better able to absorb all the nutrients. That's why it's still important to eat healthy, since your body will always prefer the nutrients provided by food rather than chemical produced ones in tablets.
I take the "perfect prenatal multivitamins" from new chapter and I like them.

All the best with your lo :)

its beats take  them in case your diet is providing all of the nutrients important to the development of baby .. Especially DHA in the first trimester because it helps with nerve, spinal and brain development! I couldn't take prenatal vitamins after I got morning sickness though so now I take the chewable prenatal vitamins made by first response with a supplementary small iron pill.
