First OBGYN appt

If my calculations are correct from my last period, I will be 8 weeks for my first appointment. For the last several weeks I've experienced light cramping with no bleeding. My doctor's office didn't seem alarmed when I told them on the phone. Is this normal? From what I read the light cramping is the uterus enlarging and preparing for baby. Will I get a sonogram for my first appointment? Hear the heartbeat? Any advice would help, I'm a first time mom :)

The cramping is normal. And light spotting, with brown discharge.  It happens after implantion. It's bright red blood you need to worry about.

Each Dr does things different. Some will do an internal ultrasound. Others wait till around 12 weeks. You probably won't be able to hear the heart beat yet because it's to early. They usually pick up a beat at 10 weeks. Other than that, notch happens the first appointment.  Unless they feel something needs to be done. Congrats on your pregnancy!  :-)
