Telling Family!

Hi there! I have two questions...

First, this is my first pregnancy and I am in the middle of my 4th week. I just set an appointment with an OB-GYN and they told me they could not see me until 10/14 which will be my 8th week. Is this normal?

Second, I am so excited and want to tell my family. Should I wait until my first appointment?

They say it's good to tell your family for more support even in the case that you may lose the baby so your not alone the others say to wait so it's not as hard having people ask you if in deed you do lose baby ... I say do what is right for you ... I'm choosing to wait till the holidays to tell the whole family when we're all together .. hubby already knows and of course I had to tell my best friend

Tell people when you feel comfortable. Yes risk is higher in the first trimester.. but I also think you wouldnt want to go through a loss alone either so family support through these early stages is good :)

I told everyone as soon as the strip gave me two lines. Everyone was thrilled. I guess it just depends on you. Regarding the first visit, every obgyn has their own procedures. Some will check you right away and even do an ultrasound on your first visit while others will just confirm your pregnancy and give you an Rx for prenatal pills. Settle for one you will be comfortable with.

I told everyone the first time and I had misscariage. I told everyone the second time and I didn't have misscarriage. It's not okay to live in fear.. Having faith helps sends your baby hope! God bless!

I was seen at 8 weeks for the first ultrasound. I told my parents, inlaws, and a few close friends. But waiting until 2nd trimester to tell everyone else. But we had a loss due to blighted ovum months ago so I waited to share this time until I knew it was confirmed. Congratulations!

The doctor won't be able to see anything before 8 weeks because the baby would be too tiny.

The first trimester is the most high risk for pregnancy.  Most people wait until after the sonogram/ultrasound or second trimester to break the news.

I'm pregnant with my first too.  We waited until after our first doctor appointment at 9 weeks to break the news.  The wait to tell people was very trying, but it's really a precautionary thing.  No one wants to hear or give out bad news.

Yess it's normal. Yess tell your loved ones already so they can pray for you so everything goes smooth and safe. :-)
