Work

I work 7 hours straight and we don't get a break. We aren't allowed to eat at work. I feel like I'm starving my baby. What should I do? I'm 29 weeks and my baby is 2 pounds and I feel like he's tiny.

Um, yeah, you need to go to your labor board immediately. I put up with a job that did that to me, because of that I became depressed due to highs and lows in blood sugar. Im not diabetic just insulin resistant and not eating regularly was really hard on me, I gained 35 lbs In three months from that, then they fired me for demanding a break that I am required to receive by law. If they try anything it will be discrimination because your pregnant. If you want to you may ask sit down with your employers first, but I am bitter so I would just go strait to the labor board. THEY ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT DO THIS TO YOU.

My doctor gave me a note saying I needed a 15 minute break every 3-4 hours & an appropriate lunch break. See if your's will too.

I agree with Thobe.    I don't think they can keep you from eating  - even if it's just a sandwich and shake that take 5 minutes to eat.

I honestly don't know what you can do. I work up to 13 hours with no break or food/drinks sometimes because I'm an ICU nurse and I can't tell my patient "I'll get back to saving your life after my break...." But I do make the effort to keep a granola bar nearby. I'm sure you at least get a restroom break. Keep a couple protein bars in your apron and go at it when you're on a potty break. Talk to your manager though and see if something simple can be worked out so you don't have to go the "dr's note" route unless you have to.

I looked on the US Department of Labor's website and it says it is not a federal law anyone must receive a lunch or coffee break. And another website specifically about Michigan says it is not mandatory either. There are, however, certain laws for minors. I don't know what kind of drinks you can get away with, but can you get some protein shakes or anything?

I'm a hostess at a restaurant. Should I ask if they would allow me to eat something? What should I do when I'm in a lot of pain at work? Talk to a doctor or is that just normal for everyone that's on there feet that long?

I agree with tomorrow.  If you live in the US,  elayna,  it isn't legal to work people 7 hours with no breaks or opportunity to eat.

Do you work in the US?

I don't know where you live but in the state of Minnesota it is required by law that your employer gives you a 15 minute break for every four hours you work. I'd look into it. That's mean to expect anyone pregnant or not to go 7 hrs without eating.
