birth defect testing

What are your thoughts on getting the screening bloodwork?  My husband and I opted out, but don't want to be making the wrong decision.

I didnt do it with any of my kids and this is my third. They offer it to everyone but depending on your age they can be more persistent about it. I dont have any family history that concerns me enough to do the testing and regardless of the results it wouldnt matter to me anyway. Plus its not always accurate..

I opted out as well with the his pregnancy and my last 2 pregnancies and both of my babies are perfect :) and #3 is looking good too! I think you'll feel more at ease when you go in for the ultrasound where you find out the gender. Good Luck!

I think getting tested while pregnant is not the best choice, especial if you plan on keeping your baby no matter what. It will only cause speculations and worry. My first born is special needs,I didn't get test results till he was 9 years old. I'm 8 months pregnant now and told the dr no on testingbecause it will not change anything except cause me to worry. Our babies will come the way the are supposed to :-) and testing will not change it

We did find out the gender and I felt at peace with everything until the doctor brought it up again today.  The results wouldn't matter to us-So we figured one less needle was okay by us.  Thank you for your input, ladies.  :)

I told them Dr I didn't care if she did it or not on all three of mine an so it was done and my first two cane back fine and born healthy. 3rd came back with Trisomy 18 and have had further testing and ultrasounds to clear stuff up still have another ultrasound and blood work to do. Coming from someone who has been thru it it is nice to know because most babies don't make it to term and I can prepare myself for any out come

Good or bad. If my baby does have I and passed away I feel like I would do better knowing what I know and not be a total shock later on. And with down syndrome you can prepare yourself for what you may need to do when baby is born. It wouldn't matter to me the outcome of the test because I don't believe in abortion but feel better prepared for any thing that could happen.
