my body is confused...

This morning at 3:30 i woke up to excrutiating constant lower back pain /tailbone pain. I was also contracting but it was not consistent contractions (but he back lain and contractions were so painful i was bawling) i also had diarrhea. I was completely convinced it was the real deal but wanted to wait for my water to break. My water didnt break. The only thing i could do to make thd pain ease up ALITTLE was to rock back and forth while sitting up. Eventually (around 6am) i decided to lay down and breathe through it after about 20 minutes the pain eased up alittle just like rocking back and forth did so i continued to lay down (this made the contractions too weak to be painful (just felt my tummy tighten) but the back pain was still sharp but bearabke. This ENTIRE time whenever i would stand up the back pain became immediately unbearable (could not stand straight up) and i would start feeling my contractions again. At 8am i was able to fall asleep until about 10 hoping id wake up to more consistant and stronger contractions but again as soon as i lay down the back pain is bearable and the contractions can not be felt but once i stand back up...BAM there it is again, but now my belly is tightening when i lay down (not painful like before) but when i stand up it contracts and stays tight
Its like my body is trying to start labor but its all kinds of confused...
Should i even bother my dr?!

Your post said you wanted to wait for your water to break but it never did... only like 15-20% (I think is the correct number) of women have their water break in it's own. Mine did not break with either of my first 2, the doctor broke it for me after I was already definitely in labor. Just wanted to let you know that so you don't wait too long to go to L&D when you are in labor because that may never come. Hope you get some relief or get to meet your baby soon!!

I'm pregnant with my 4th baby, & my personal experiences my water has never broke on its own..I would be dialated to a 5 & the doc would have to break my water..it doesn't always break on its own..& real contractions never go away..just stay hydrated & comfy as much as u can & if u feel the need to walk...girl walk... I have done that with everyone of my pregnancys @ 38 weeks pregnant & it would help tremendously...good luck to you..& of course do only what u feel is comfortable to you..motherly instincts always kick in

I agreed it was not labor but braxton hicks.  They can be very painful and consistent.  Labor back pain will come and go.
Besides you can go in and out of labor several times before the real thing finishes.

This is NOT braxton hicks. Braxton hicks are not painful. Ive had braxton hicks my whole pregnancy. Plus braxton hicks will completely go away when you rest..mine did not. Braxton hicks are also not consistant and do not get stronger as time goes on...
Are you sure that you know what braxton hicks are?

You may also have a pinched nerve if the back pain is that bad. I would try a warm bath and then a little ice for maybe 15/20mins. ..my doc has told me no heating pads so I say the same to you.

Has your doctor ever explained braxton hicks to you?? That sounds like exactly what it is. If you get a discharge with all this then id say time to go in but it definitly sounds like just Braxton hicks ..your bodies not confused its preparing for the actual labor.  The tightening/cramping/back pain..all just preparations.

I ended up calling the dr office and they said just stay active and see if you can get those contractions regular. So i walked for 2 hours and got my contractions consistantly 2 minutes apart. After 2.5 hours of painful (not just annoying but actually painful) contractions every 2 minutes i went to L&D. Not 20 minutes after bekng hooked up to the monitors he contractions completely stopped. I sooo thought this was it. Now that ive been sent home im feeling super depressed. Im soo ready to meet my little man and get rid of this excrutiating back pain!
