cloth and disposable diapers

I've read a few ladies on here using both cloth and disposable diapers for their kiddos. When did you use cloth and when did you use disposable?  Should I cloth ot use disposable as a newborn?  I've heard a few mothers do disposable as a newborn because they will need more changes,  then switch to disposables at size 1 or 2. Suggestions?  I'm a FTM so any help would be appreciated.

Two websites that helped me. YouTube has some great how to videos that I suggest watching to learn more about cloth diapers.

I have decided against cloth diapering altogether however my best friend did cloth with her daughter. From what ive heard the cloth diapers in the beginning were so challenging as the baby was so small she had a lot of leaking issues but I really think it's a great concept. I feel it would be a better option for me if I was able to stay home with baby but I have to return to work adder baby is born

Ftm but I'm starting cloth as soon as we get home from the hospital... I'm thinking that since I have NO experience I won't know the difference :)

Disposable at first,  just more work for you to do.  You need to enjoy the first few weeks,  not feel overwhelmed,  having a baby period is overwhelming at first as it is.  So the less work the better! Switch to cloth when your ready!

Makes more sense to use cloth from as early as possible especially since the newborn stage is when they need the most changes so you'll save the most money! Many newborn cloth diapers have a snap down in the front to avoid rubbing on the umbilical cord. I used gDiapers with my son and loved them at all stages, stuffing them with prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers for excellent absorbency. I used disposables for overnights for a while since he was a really heavy wetter and would sleep 12 hours straight so until I discovered charcoal bamboo inserts I couldn't keep the bed dry. But we always used cloth all day every day, whether at home, out and about, or on vacation. Once you get the hang of it it's really not too hard. Pocket diapers (like Alva, Sunbaby, Fuzzibunz, Bumgenius 4.0s) work great for some people but they weren't for us. You need to buy way too many for a full stash - good prefolds are so much cheaper that I'd rather use them with hybrid covers like gDiapers that can be used more than once without having to be washed, just by tossing the wet insert in the wetbag and replacing it.

I start cloth after umbilical cord comes off. Disposables overnight but may not this time bc I actually use literally old fashioned pinned cloth lol but I have 7 of the alva baby diapers this time as well so may try those overnight! :-)
