Anyone doing this? We're leaning towards yes but wondering what other mamas are thinking.

I thought about donating, but my hospital doesn't have a bank. You have to deliver at a location that has a public bank or they won't accept it. They have to harvest the cord blood themselves due to protocols.

You might be still be able to get your cord blood if you donated it - if it hasn't been used yet.
If leukemia runs in your family then store it. Some types are genetic. There are very few things for which it can be used

I would definitely donate it if i didn't store it privately.   Even if it's a small chance, it might help someone :)

I know actually using the cord blood is super rare.... but we do have friends who have a son with a version of leukemia who would have benefited from saving his cord blood.  His parents have said they regret not doing it and would definitely do it in the future.  But it's expensive and so rare to use..... However i would feel so guilty if baby needed it and i didn't do it! Just can't decide!!!

that is why i'm really leaning towards donating. I've never been able to donate my blood - so i can at least do my cord blood

We might donate-van't afford to bank it privately. In most cases, it won't be used for your child anyway-most conditions & diseases its used for are genetic.

i'm thinking of donating the cord blood - give it a higher chance of being used. banking for yourself is pretty expensive
