radioactive baby :/

My husband is on another save the baby kick. His latest concern is the fact that i sit holding my cell phone on my belly while playing games an chatting. I've been on bed rest for  10 weeks now so candy crush saga has became one of my best friends lol. Anyway.... He pretty much throws a child fit about my cell and the big bad radioactive waves being too close to the baby. Do u all think he has a leg to stand on or should i continue to hold my ground?

I agree with nonomommy2011. Plus that so-called news piece never stated whether or not cancer was something that runs in her family. Its just people trying to get attention and probably an attempt to get money. If cell phones were that dangerous, scientists and doctors would come up with some other form of communication or protection.

I think this is utterly ridiculous.

Think of it this way - HOW MANY PEOPLR HAVE EAR OR BRAIN CANCER?!  If having a phone close to a body part is what causes it there would be A LOT more dying people caused by this.

Some people just need to take a chill pill

To avoid issues, and because there is a case on both sides, maybe it would be best to tell your hubby you understand why he has concerns and make a compromise by making sure there is a barrier between your phone/tablet/laptop and your belly. For the rest of your childs life you will have to make decisions and compromise with your husband about what is best for all of you. It is easier to be happy than to be right, especially with things like this.

I'm not trying to be rude I just want to point out there is no evidence this is what caused this girls cancer. Her and her parents believe it was the cause and somebody put it on the news.  Yes some Dr agree but many do not.  Basically the jury is still out.

I'm not saying not to take the better safe than sorry route especially while science does not agree on if it does or doesn't have an effect.  There are many things during regnancy that probably won't hurt us and baby but we still refrain just in case.  I just find it interestimg that we take one anecdotal story and we get scared.  I know many women who will freak about their cellphone but have no problem spending hours laying by the pool or in a tanning bed to get the perfect tan when we absolutely know that can lead to skin cancer and has been proven to be transfered to baby inutereo, though being transferred to baby is rare.

Agree with the other mamas. And the girl is only 21, and cancer spread. All from a cell phone. Crazy!! I wouldn't risk it to you or baby. This is a battle he wins, but don't tell him that, LOL.

I seen the same thing about the girl who kept it in her bra. I wouldn't chance it. Just hold a pillow or something between u and the phone at least

This is a huge debate at the moment.  One of the main reasons it is such a huge debate is there is no definitive evidence to support either side.  Some studies suggest a link while others show absolutely no link.

Basically your phone emits electromagnetic radiation.  Electromagnetic radiation sounds scary but basically it carries energy and includes everything from UV rays from the sun, visible light (like what comes out of your light bulb), and radio waves.  These waves are classified into two categories ionizing (high energy) and non ionizing (low energy).  UV and Gamma rays are ionizing and can be dangerous.  These can cause damage to your cells hence why we protect our skin from UV rays and why gamma rays are used to kill cancer cells (they can also cause cancer).  All other electromagnetic radiation is considered non ionizing.  These cannot ionize atoms and are generally considered safe.  The radio waves coming from your phone are non ionzing.  While these are generally considered safe they can heat tissue.  This is why there is a debate.  The fact that we use are phones so often and they are so close to our body there are some who believe the radio waves can heat the tissue and thereby cause damage.   I have heard different stories about someone who use to keep their phone wherever and than developed cancer there.  Honestly this is one of those we look for a reason in everything so we blame the phone.  Cancer is much more complex than one cause it includes diet, genetics, environment, age...  My aunt, grandma, great aunt all had breast cancer and none of them use cell phones.  My dad had prostate cancer and never had a cell phone in his pocket.

My personal opinion from all the research I have seen is there is not enough evidence to suggest that cell phones really do cause a problem.  If you are concerned or your husband is the easiest thing to do is what the previous poster mention and place a blanket on your lap and than your phone (of course we could argue that the blanket itself will warm the tissue in your body soo....) the blanket will than absorb the energy from the radio waves and would eliminate the worry.  One last thing is where there is lots of blood flow there is less worry because it can carry the heat away.

Sorry for the long post.

Its hard to say but I always try to have a blanket on my tummy just In case.  I saw a report of a 21 year old girl who was diagnosed with breast cancer and she use to carry her cell phone in her bra and that is the exact spot the tumor was found.  So after that I'm just a little more careful about my cell phone sitting on my body
