labor n delivery costs. ...is this normal? currently 12 weeks

I currently have uhc for insurance with a 3 deductable. my dr is saying that her labor and delivery costs will be around $3100 and I have to pay all of this up front.
everyone else that I have all poker to says that their cost is a fraction of what mine is and that they were able to make payments even after the baby is born.
Plus what happens if I don't deliver at the hospital my dr is at do I get my $ back??

insurance in general confuses the crap out of me.... so my question is....
is my cost so high bc of my deductable and is it normal to have to pay everything up front?

thanks everyone =)

Thanks for all the insight.  I go back for my next appt on the 12th and I'm going to talk to financial advisor again. I think it's crazy to think everyone can pay that much money in a few months.I don't have extra cash lying around just to throw at doctors lol.

I'm def gonna ask about the:what if for some reason I don't deliver at the hospital she is at...do I get a portion of my money back.
Also my mom just mentioned that with me and my sister they had her pay up front as well.... (weird concept if u ask me it's like paying for a car in full before you can even test drive it lol)

I've never heard of them making you pay up front. You never know what complication may occur but even if you don't get it all paid up front they can't just turn you away in labor.

Well, my gyn was 3200 along (not including hospital costs/care). The 3200 did include prenatal care/visits. They looked at my insurance (as far as deductible s and then if ins. Covered 80, 90 or 100%). They did require my estimated babble to be paid in full by the end of the 8th month. That is not completely uncommon, but I was ask them to look at insurance stats, your deductible,  etc and try to estimate your cost that way.

Lol I can't answer for sure because I don't really understand insurance either. But here's what my situation is. I have great insurance, a 750$ deductible that's been well met. My doctors delivery fee along with whole pragnancy care (14 doc office visits) is $ 7600..aftee y insurance pays I'll oww around 3100$ myself. This doesn't include mine or my daughters hospital bills. And my ob doesn't bill until after delivery for anything. So my only out of pocket has been labs, and ultrasounds. Which have helped me meet my deductible :)
