lice inside my home...

So my boyfriends daughter came to spend the weekend with us. And I was doing her hair yesterday. I noticed her scalp was red. I asked her about it and she explained her head was itchy. She told her mommy and her mommy didn't do anything. So we never knew. But she's been laying with me and on the sofa and in her bed. I am 9wks. My boyfriend treated her hair because I didn't want to risk it while pregnant.  But I feel like I should treat myself too. I have extremely long hair. But I fear risking the pregnancy.  Any advice????

Oh my. I didn't even think of the car! crap. Okay. Since my doctor said no the rid brand. I'll ask my boyfriend to spray and vacuum the car and let it hair out. Unfortunately,  southwest Missouri is on tornado watches and the weather *****. So I might have to wait on that until later. Thank you for warning me about the car.

If she was in the car,  don't forget to wash the area her head would have touched.

Next time dont worry about the dogs, lice don't jump species like fleas. Human lice is human lice, horse lice is horse lice, etc. :) and I am glad to know there is a nontoxic lice option lice is going around my daughters school

I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my son if you call the doctors office they can give you a script for shampoo that isn't as strong but will take care off the problem

TThanks ladies.  I also talked to my midwife about it. She said don't use rid brand because of the pesticide in it. I tried the lice MD. Because it is non toxic. Let me tell you.  It works great.  I did treat my hair and my boyfriends hair. I even treated the dogs. Followed by dog shampoo for them. While I was at work my boyfriend used a powder stuff on the carpet and took care of washing the laundry and all the blankets. Thanks ladies for all the advise!

Snowdin28 you are lucky! Most people do need to treat twice and it takes 14 days to suffocate the bugs so anything that can't be washed should be airtight for two weeks

Steam the carpet? Lol, that's a little excessive. My daughters got lice from school when I was in the middle of the worst parts of my morning sickness several months ago. I treated both of their heads and then I took the blow dryer followed by the straighter to their hair. I stripped pillow cases and sprayed the pillows with Rid spray and sprayed their blankets and bagged them for a few days.then boiled all the brushes and vacummed the carpets very well. I didn't need to treat them a second time.

I need see eggs and nits in her hair. I washed my hands and told my boyfriend.  He treated her. I washed her entire room and bought a carpet powder and vacuumed.  Next question. Had anyone used the liceMD brand. It's pesticide free. I thought it would be safer for me. But unsure of the effectiveness. Anyone try it?

Yay lice! These pesky little bugs are very annoying however if you don't have any on you there is no reason to treat. I am a peds nurse and get to have this talk at least once a week :-) first make sure the instructions were followed on the box for the treatment and that combing for nits was done properly. If she is staying at your house, in between treatments put olive oil in her hair. This can be done every 2-3 days between lice treatments and helps to suffocate any bugs that may have survived the first treatment. You'll want to completely coat the hair and leave it in whole she sleeps (for 8 hours) and wash out I'm the morning. As far as the house. Wash all comforters, blankets, pillow cases, etc in hot water, vacuum rugs and furniture, any stuffed animals or throw pillows that cannot be washed need to be sealed airtight in plastic bags for 2 weeks. If you have any questions feel free to ask, like I said I get to give this talk a lot.

Did you actually see lice? If you did you need to treat your husband and yourself. And get rid of all fabric/ stuffed animals. You need to treat the entire house, steam the carpets

You can dye your hair and that will kill them just make sure you stay in a well ventilated area to do it. Also wash anything that her head had touched it that touched her head. Boil the brushes you used to do her hair. Good luck
