low iron

So when I went to the doctor for some blood work they told me my iron was low and they prescribed me these pills to take but I dont wanna take them, I wanna boost my iron back up but by eating better. I dont wanna have to take pills other than my prenatal vitamins. Or should I just not be stubborn and take the pills?

Take the pills :) I don't know if you are planning on doing an epidural or not, but if you are, they will not let you have one if your iron is too low.

I have to take the iron pills. Oddly enough, I have not gotten constipated from them. I am not happy about taking them, but I don't want to put myself or baby at risk by not taking them. I have had an iron rich diet before finding out I was anemic, diet just wasn't enough for me I guess.

Spinach and Chard are very high in iron, if you eat those with the pills you will not get to constipated. And eat prunes

I get Nature's Sunshine liquid chlorophyll. It has a mint flavor and I add it to my water. Tastes like mint garden tea and makes so I don't have to take MORE pills.

take them. my cousin was being stubborn like you & she didnt take them her whole pregnancy. the iron rich foods had no effect& bcuz she wasnt taking the pills she fainted & had to get rushed to the hospital & they had to give her a huge dose of an iron shot & the iron shot was different from the iron pill & she had an allergic reaction. none the less if she had taken her pills none of thee above wouldve taken place...dnt put yourself in the same situation

Studying nutrition. ..fastest and most natural way to boost iron is having a spoonful of molasses each day. Get it from the health shop. Im veggie so have done that and my iron levels are fine. You wont need to take it for a long time....goodluck

My dr prescribed a stool softener along with the iron pills. Maybe your dr could do the same? Gotta say, taking my iron supplement makes me feel like s h I t. But, gotta take care of baby and body.

Iron pills are really harsh on the stomach... they made me very nauseous and I cant take them and refuse to take them... try eating iron rich foods... spinach and other leafy greens are rich in iron as is red meats, poultry and fish-- just be careful of the kind of fish due to the mercury content

Liver is high in iron! A lot of people don't like it though... I was anemic during my first pregnancy.

Dang it, ive just heard that they constipate you and I dont want to get any more constipated than what I already am. But I dont wanna be anemic after I deliver specially since I wanna breast feed.

I took them with my last, they are not pleasant but they helped especially since eating iron rich foods were having no effect. I was still anemic at delivery but got lucky and didnt need a transplant since I was clotting on my own.
