my fiancé's snake .. literally

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and my fiancé has a bald python snake. I HATE snakes, one of my biggest fears next to guns. So he's been having this snake before me. Its in his room and I refuse to sleep in there because of it. So I was watching discovery channel and there was something about snakes. so I guess this particular snake which the owners loved and adore size the kid up, kept growing until it was bigger then the kid then ate the kid ! I lost my damn mind, I'm beyond terrified that his snake is going to size our baby up and eat her. I know this is crazy but I can't get over that and don't want the snake no where near my soon to be new born. Easy access . He's leaving for the Navy after the baby is born and will take it back to the pet store then but I want it gone TODAY. Please help am I being crazy ?

I think your baby's life is before an animals so yes I think getting rid of it is best but first talk to your partner and come to an agreement about it

Like I said, it's a reasonable fear. And everyone fears what they don't completely understand. Don't be afraid to ask questions. But no if housed properly the snake can't hurt the baby

I can understand I'm being unreasonable and thanks for all the information. Like I said snakes are one of my biggest fears. He's going to take it back soon because he will be leaving to the navy. I will not be taking care of this snake when he leaves its just too much for me . But thanks for reassuring me that this snake wont harm my baby. I'm not a expert.

I get the good information, but I have arachnophobia and would not visit my.sister when she kept a tarantula locked in a terrarium. a real phobia is truly unreasonable. I think since he is getting rid of it anyway, it doesn't make her a horrible person to ask him to return it as soon as the baby is born. he'll have plenty else to do with the newborn so he's less likely to miss a snake he planned on getting rid of anyway. just my opinion.

I think everyone could be more understanding to the fact that if someone has a fear they can't control it... Yes getting rid of it is extreme if the snake is properly caged It is safe... I have a 3 year old and a 5 ft albino and she is always double locked and never showed interest in myself, husband, daughter or visitors

There is a huge amount of misinformed people and tons of fear mongering.  My business partner keeps the balls at his place (we have over 20) and I keep boas and tree boas.

It's a shame people have these feelings and I always urge responsible pet owners to spread proper information.

Hahahahahaha wow. SO miss informed. Snakes dont flipping eat people. I'm sorry, but thats just stupid. If snakes ate kids, there would be more snakes and less people. I have four ball pythons and am breeding them. Balls dont even get that big. What usually happens is irrisponsible snake owners leave large snakes alone with small children and accidents happen.

I'm 28 years old and my 4 foot ball is enough to make me red in the face when shes around me, but she is NOT trying to eat me. Im a heat source, i feel good to her and she doesnt understand that i have a limit. Snakes have hearts, mine do at least, shes very in tune with me and has NEVER harmed me or my other pets. If snakes like her were such cold blooded killers, im fairly sure she'd be trying to eat me cat, chihuahua and jack russell.

Snakes will hardly go for something they know theu can not swallow. And that whole "sizing" up bull crap, is just that. Constrictiors don't have the time to size up. They're instinct is to strike and ask later otherwise they could die themselves.

I think you're freaking out over nothing and expcting a lot from your boyfriend to give up his pet. Thats like asking you to give up ypur dog or cat cause he doesnt like them.

Please educate yourself and try to learn to at least respect the animal for his sake. Otherwise i feel you're just being unreasonable.

Yeah we had two ball pythons. Like LoriBee said, ball pythons do not get large. I've never heard of a ball python going past six feet and that's extreme. They mostly range between three and four but females can become larger. As long as he keeps it in the correct terrarium with a correct lid, you have nothing to worry about. We only got rid of our snakes because my husband is in the army and having a cat, two dogs, two fish aquariums, two snakes, and a new baby when it gets here will be way too much on me especially when he is away.

9ft ball python is as rare as a four leaf clover

Yes. You are. But I understand why.

Ball (not bald) pythons are harmless to your baby. Males grow between 3-4ft long as adults. The snake will NOT size up or attempt to eat your newborn.  If by chance the snake escapes its enclosure it will find a warm dark place and hide out.

If you're really that worried have the snake in a secure LOCKABLE enclosure in a different room.  I have been keeping and breeding snakes and lizards for the last 5 years. My snakes are in a seperate room.  They're all secure my son is 2 and is not allowed near the  snakes. I currently have 10 snakes and 4 lizards in my house.

If you're referring to the African Rock Python that killed the 2 kids in Canada please understand the animal was NOT secured properly,  and the children had been at a petting zoo all day therefore it smelled like prey.

Pythons are as diverse as people. A 4lb ball python is a far cry from a 18ft 180lb afrock

I have owned several snakes in mynlife. I had a 9 foot Ball Python when ai was sa little girl & never had any issues. If you keep your pet caged and well fed, there is ZERO risk of it attacking your child. That being said, If the snake makes you uncomfortable task him to take it back now. If he's leaving and going to take it back anyway, what's the difference.
