I was having contractions at 39+2 and was only 1cm dilated so I was sent home from the hospital, sure enough as soon as I arrived home my contractions stopped.. 4days later I was having inconsistent contractions and that night my waters broke, I was only 3cm dilated and 60% effaced but a few hours later with a few strong contractions I was fully dilated and fully effaced and after an hour of pushing my little one was born.. Be assured that all those irregular contractions are putting your baby in the right direction for delivery :)

When I had to be induced with my stillborn back in 2013 I dilated from 5 to 10 in about 20 minutes. Now that's fast lol.

I went in for 39 weeks checkup. My doctor told me that I was dialated 1 cm and my cervix was very soft. But he never mentioned the % effacement. I am due in 3 days and I am getting irregular contractions.  Hoping to hear some good news in my next appointment. ..

Dilation and effacement really are no indication of when labor will happen.
