Ugh. See I shouldn't be complaining :( I haven't started getting my bills yet. Only had 2 appts. (15wks) so they should be coming soon. I had wanted to be a sahm but that 3 mo I was out of a job was tough! We are hoping for 3 kids which hopefully I'll be making more than the daycare bill!
They were all from one month...January.
I totally understand mege my family is in the same situation. We work really hard to have what we do and to give our kids the best we can. But because our income we dont get any deductions but instead pay much much more. We have been eating into savings this whole pregnancy, we almost had enough to buy a house but now with the new insurance that is quickly disappearing. I am a SAHM and there is no way I could make enough to pay for 3 kids to be in childcare so after this baby is born I will be looking into some work I can do on the side to basically cover our medical until my kids are all in school and then I will work. It is really annoying as 3 years ago my husbands insurance covered every bill... Now they cover nothing, especially when it come to me :-/ Between my husband and I we received medical bills this week totally $1500+ and then a monthly premium on top of that. I get very scared how we are going to survive the direction insurance is taking for us...
Sorry to whine about it b/c I am very thankful for the things we do have a d we could really be worse off!
Its frustrating. We are not poor but not even close to rich. But they don't have anything to help. I was out of a job for 3 months. Into the 3rd month it was too expensive to live off of one income. I checked into gov assistance for healthcare for my baby (we put her on my husband so she never went without) since she had ins she couldn't get the cheaper ins and since we had too much in savings didn't qualify for free ins. I only needed it til I got a job! The only way I could have gotten help was 1) let her go with no ins and then apply for the cheaper one. 2) use the money we have been saving and make us broke. It just makes it hard to try and better your situation.
I have great insurance through my employer but I would like to quit to stay at home to raise my twin babies after they are born. My husband and I looked into Covered California and were very disappointed. It is low cost only if you are poor, not if you work to make a decent living even if you have a large family. My benefits will run out by July so I'm praying we can get on my husband's benefits which are expensive as well. But still covers more than Covered California and includes dental and vision.
I don't know if this will help you, but in most states pregnant women automatically qualify for state insurance. I live in Virginia and pregnant women get Medicaid unless income is too high they get something similar to Medicaid. With mine and my hubbys income, I didn't qualify for regular Medicaid but I did qualify for FAMIS which gives you the exact same benifits as state Medicaid! Hope this helps...it's worth looking in to! Good luck :)
You are brave lady. I could not get insurance and it almost put me in bankruptcy. Just one chronic condition or car accident and you're screwed. If your baby is born premature -god forbid- you would need to be independently wealthy to survive that. I HATE insurance companies with a passion but I haven't found a low risk way to be without. But you may be very wealthy or lucky, I am neither. Stay healthy!
Thank you all for chiming in and giving me things to think about
I think its all a rip off. Insurance in general and what the hospital charges if you have insurance. After looking at our monthly fees and deductible and copay fees we opted out of insurance and are self pay. Its amazing how much we have saved in having this baby. Called our dr. And the hospital and figured out all thw prices. My dr only charges $2800 for all my prenatal and actual c section surgery. The hospital bill was $3500. And lab work for all my blood tests and such less than $400. Id say it was cheaper than a monthly fee plus a $6000 deductible and then copays......Insurance is a business. They need to make money and unfortunately it is at our hard earned dollar rather than just being charged what things actually cost. Then you think of all the middle men that need to be paid with insurance...hospitals charge more for everything if you have insurance...we got an 83% discount plus 20% more if you pay that day! Because then they dont have to deal with sending out bills and collecting like they do with insurance.
The health insurance is still run by private companies so once you've signed up and made sure your coverage is active you'll be just dealing with the company! Not that they're fun... In fact they're kind of @$$ holes. :/
My husband has anthem blue cross threw work and im under my moms insurance til im 26.. im 23. I have kaiser and luckily I have the best coverage all appointments are free and delivery as well only $100 co pay when I deliver... but my daughter will have to be put under medi-cal so its not expensive for husband and baby will still be under Kaiser or I let my mom put her under her plan as a grandchild but they expect to allow her to claim my child on taxes due to her paying her insurance
That 4000 more than we would pay with our ins. Not 4000 total. I'll have to do more research when I'm by a computer
I checked as a family and it was crazy we would save -/+ $100/mo but the cost of baby would be +4000! And if I were to qualify for lower cost... Idk I'm nervous to trust it since there were issues getting it set up. I like to wait til things are new to get the kinks out! Bad time to think about switching! Yay me!
I liked when. I had my old job and they paid for 100% of my insurance ;) that was nice!
Its best to enroll as a family, as you will get a lower monthly premium. You may also qualify for tax credits as well. I work for a agency that does this. Enroll as a family...or at least get a quote ☺☺
There is no 'Obama Care Insurance Plan' Obama care is the affordable health care act which is a set of laws and regulations on health insurance. Every state implements it differently. Some states with democratic government expanded medicaid so more people would have access to very cheap insurance. Check with your state to see if you qualify. If you are not eligible or live in a state that did not expand you have to go to the online market. Many people are eligible for tax refunds to help cover the cost of these plans. But unfortunately, they are still pretty pricey. Because of the ACA. All insurance companies must cover most prenatal care, must cover the cost of breast pumps, and can no longer drop you or deny coverage because you are pregnant or had a C section. Did you know that giving birth used to qualify as a pre existing conditions and private insurers didn't have to give you coverage? !? WTH! I hope this helps. I am unfortunately very familiar with insurance companies because of how screwed over I used to get. Any other questions, ask!
I was told to check out Obama care but that freaked me out. We have united healthcare which I love. My husband does too. So I guess we will go under his if I get the job. Idk. I didn't even look if there was a number to call on the website.
It depends on how much u make. I dont work and my husband has a minimum wage job. So i get everything absolutely free.
Out of what I can tell there are two sides to obamacare. It is either great for you or horrible. Like you it hurts my family. Our daughter now is costing us about $4500 more than our son cost us 2 years ago. :-/ And 2 years before that we didnt pay a penny to have our first daughter. Pretty much none of our bills are covered now until we pass $6500.
I know exactly what your talking bout...I don't understand it either...I fell ova into a new year so now I have 2 pay another deductible...so now I'm looking @ around 2500 out of pocket...I've only had 1 ultrasound which is $500 apiece I wonder if I will still have 2 pay 4 other even tho I'm not getting it...but it's been charged 2 my insurance...babies r expensive...so do u keep yo own insurance or is it suppose 2 b cheaper thru Obama care
It's different for everyone, you can't compare your plan to anyone else's.
