repeat c section?

I ended up having to have a c section with my first after 18 hours of hard labor because his head was stuck. I went in that morning to be induced and all of that went fine up until the pushing part. My question is what should I expect this time around since I'm not going to labor?

Do they use lidocaine to numb it first or do they just go for it? I'm sure every hospital is different and I plan on asking my Dr this week.

I had an emergency csection in 2010 and had my 2nd csection on May 26th. This time around was waaay better from what I remember about an emergency csection. The needle in your back is a little uncomfortable but by the time you start its too late to stop and you pretty much have to just suck it up and let them finish. It stings for sure but lasts a couple minutes and then they lay you down. The numbing starts almost immediately. I'm not sure why but me not being able to move my legs freaked me out and being strapped down because I'm claustrophobic also. But once I calmed myself down and my husband came in I was ok. Once my baby was out my husband got to hold her skin to skin and then before they wheeled me out they put her on my chest. Recovery has been 100x easier. The first 2-3 days were rough because I couldn't keep anything down and was starving. I was also very dizzy when I'd stand up. But now a week later I have stopped bleeding, walking and not taking as much medicine. I hope this helps and good luck.

My first was an emergency c section after 20 hours of labor. My second was planned and went a lot smoother. I knew what to expect and recovery was easier as well. Having my third in August.

How do they go about the pain meds? With my first I had it through the iv and worked my way up to the epidural and even though they did it during a contraction it still hurt. I know this sounds retarded but I'm deathly afraid of needles and the thought of just walking in and getting shanked in the back is what I'm the most nervous about.

Onutza89- they will cut u I the same place depending on the amount of scar tissue from the 1st C. But I didn't think it hurt more than my 1st (2nd time I was cut in the same line). In fact w my 1st C my incision & belly was numb for several months after surgery. My 2nd C I was back to myself in 2wks. But I also made a point to walk as much as possible. Of course don't push it at all. But I walked a lot at the hospital, not far but every 1 to 2 hrs I would make a lil lap in the halls at the hospital-very slowly. Then once at home I would go for walks not far or fast-to the mail box, then 1 block, 2 blocks only increasing the distance every few days.

My 1st was an emergency C also. An emergency C is MUCH harder on Ur body. The environment is less stressful also. U go in they do the prep work, U talk to every1 (it's still a lil nerve racking-it's surgery after all. I'm preparing for C 3 & I'm anxious nervous etc). Then they take U into the OR get U ready, then baby is born. My hubby got to cut the umbilical cord, hubby held baby (my 1st was rushed to the NICU), I was finished up & moved to recovery. They handed me the baby-I nursed. They baby was w us the whole time. So much better than my 1st C. Recovery was easier as it was easier to walk rt away, eat, although sleep for me was difficult at 1st, I was on an adrenalin rush fr the whole experience & meds (I hate pain meds-they give me energy) so as soon as I was on ibuprofen I was able to sleep.

Well  I'm also having a repeated c section. I've heard it hurts a lot more than the first one,  because they'll cut in the same place
