No i am short and overweight.. I have never had a c section. I have heard that it can make labor harder. But it has not for me. I am around other ladies that where way bigger than me that did not have c section because of weight. I also know skinny woman who have had to have c sections and some that did not. I would not worry about that. Something else will have to happen just being over weight does not put you at having a c section
I am considered obese based on BMI (i am a size 14 though which is average for women) and not only have I never had a c section, both of my pregnancies and births were healthy, both births were without pain management, and fairly quick. Not only that I conceived all three of my kids (pregnant with third) on the first try (first ovulation cycle I tried)
Everything they say about fertility and being over weight is a bunch of bs. It used to be believed a larger woman was most fertile, which is why all fertility gods are depicted as being voluptuous.
If you get a Dr that gives you a hard time about your weight find a new one (or get a midwife like I did)
I was never told by my midwife "you should aim to gain south's 10lb"like you often hear and read.
All of those rules are just drs getting too involved in a natural process
There is more risks with labor of you are.obese. that being said there are more complications with a c section and being obese then anything because of blood loss, heart rate and overall condition. But we are talking obese. Not over weight
*if you are. And that has nothing to do with how healthy the baby is. Size doesn't matter much
I have heard that before but I think they are referring to very very large women instead. I am also considered obese on the bmi chart and I could stand to lose some weight yes but I wouldn't look at someone my size and say they were obese. I too am about a size 14
Thank you ladies for your responses :) I feel much at ease about labor.
The key is to remain active during your whole pregnancy whether overweight or not. Yes, i do believe it makes labor a little harder but its just really important to remain active and that should help with the labor process a bit.
