tandem nursing.

I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant and still nursing my almost 17 month old son. I want to continue nursing him throughout pregnancy and birth of my second. I was just curious if there are any other moms doing this, and if so how is it going for you? I have had some crazy nipple soreness but other then that my supply has been hanging in there and my son still wants to nurse a lot. So far so good I guess.

My sister did this, and it worked fine for her and her sons.  She nursed through pregnancy and then nursed the baby and the toddler.  I don't know if she weaned the older child first or both at the same time.

My mother in law nursed my husband while pregnant with his sister. He was a little over 2 when she was born and weaned him off then and just nursed her worked great for her :-) she had no problems with anything. Good luck I think it's wonderful that you are able to do that! :-)

I hear they usually wean themselves in the second trimester because of supply drop and the milk changes consistency and flavor.  It's totally possible to continue tho and hope that you get to!

Yeah I've heard that too but I've also heard of a few mom's that made it through no problem to the end. I hope we can make it because he is still so much of a baby to me. I don't want him to have to wean I'd rather him choose when.

I nursed while pregnant and it was no different than non-pregnant nursing. My babies self winged near the end of pregnancy with the help of my husband giving chocolate milk. Who can compete with chocolate milk.lol. nothing wrong with it great for your baby.

Sorry my phone cutted the message: as he is still small it will be easier for him to take the newborn arrival, better transition too. Good luck and i hope you can reach your goal, at the end is a bit harder but don't give up is a wonderful way for your babies to bond. Good luck!!!

I'm nursing my 15 mo and 33+3 wks preg. My supply plummeted around 25 wks. But she dry nurse through it. She also use to bite me alot. So I started weaning I only do it at night sometimes and afternoon nap. My milk just recently changed back to colostrum. She Dnt care what it is as long as I let her nurse. Although I get extremely bad Braxton hicks now. Sometimes I have to stop cause they get very intense. My Dr said to drink a glass of water while nursing but it really Dnt work.

My son is lactose intolerant so I really feel the need to continue nursing him. My Dr advised me to wean because it can interfere with unborn babies nutrition, but all the literature I've read has been very positive in regards to nutrition. Its good to know that there are more moms out there that have been/are in the same situation. I gives me hope that we can stick with it. I also want to continue so the transition will be easier when new baby arrives. Hopefully we can still have that bonding time.

My midwife said there is no reason to wean. I nursed my daughter until she self weaned last month. She was 23 months and I was about 20 weeks. I would have tandem nursed if she needed it, but she's been doing fine since she stopped nursing. Good for you to keep nursing even after the doctor said not to. :)

I would have totally gone the midwife route if I didn't have a heart condition, I'm too high risk though. But I'm definitely one of those that doesn't cave to every tid bit of advise my doc gives me. I like to research things myself and I try to take the most granola way.
