to folic acid or not?

First post - here goes - help?

I am 29, 1st pregnancy and 7 weeks 4 days along.
When I went to get it all confirm at the docs 2 weeks ago I was advised to start taking folic acid + vitamin D supplement daily, only problem is since taking it I am so nauseas I can barely move without gagging and ultimately being sick.
I forgot to take a table saturday night and felt the best I have felt in days on Sunday and wondering if there is a link here. Took it again last night and had to call in sick to work because I couldnt leave the bog bowl.

Anyone experience anything similar? Now the absolute neccessity of taking this supp even though I have (or think I do anyway) have a varied diet!

thanks in advance

Thanks everyone. Very helpful! I take the tablet about an hour before bed just aftet my main meal (simply because i am so exhausted from work/commute that I just want to collapse into bed as soon as I get in)
spinach i can definitely add more to my diet ♡ yum!
Got a MW app (the 1st on friday) and will hopefully get a good guideline :)

Try getting the gummy prenatals that contain folic acid. There are some really  yummy ones!

Honestly telling a prenatal vitamin would be enough.  It gives you your folic acid and iron plus vitamin D.  Most people don't get enough folic acid through dietary sources which increases risk of birth defects lime spina bifida

Folic acid is important, it supposed to help prevent neural tube defects and all manner of things, if the supplement is causing you to be sick, there are foods you can eat that are rich in folic acid - like dark leafy greens, broccoli, avacado. You can always call your ob and ask them what they would recommend, even if it's just leaving a message for their nurse.

Sometimes it can help to take supplements/vitamins right before bed too, that way you sleep through the time they are hitting your stomach. It has helped a little in my experience.
