hey ladies!

So i normally post on the other group! But i have a question.

Im a ftm and yesterday was my 2nd doctor visit! Im 9 weeks. Now i know it can be early for a heart beat check and a ultrasound check as well. My doctor promised me my last visit that i would get both checked. She simply saidbshe changed her mind and told me she wouldnt even consider doing a ultrasound till my 18th or 21st week. I know im knew to all of this but Isnt my doctor at least suppose to check if my baby is growing in the place it should and all that great stuff?! I have 3 ultrasounds by my insurance. She also said she wouldnt check for a heart beat till my 4th visit!?.

I need advice on what too do bc i have switched doctors but i have to confrim a doctor switch today and my husband said he would rather keep the same doctor bc he trusts her.

Plz help!

Most should do a confirmation scan between 7-12weeks. Weird that yours won't. I would go elsewhere. Mine was done around 10-11 weeks and I saw the heart beat.

It's up to you. I would be cautious too.  Did you ask why she changed her mind? At 9 weeks you have time to switch again. You can ask for a consult visit before you decide which doctor to choose that way you are not stuck with an insensitive doctor. I hope everything works out for you.

Some Dr can use a pelvic exam for confermation. Normally they don't pick up a heart beat from a Doppler until 12weeks so its nor abnormal for u to not hear heart beat for awhile. Up to u to which if u don't like her protocol

Thanks you guys!

I asked her why she changed her mind and she said there wouldnt be much too see nor hear. She said she would really like to wait till my 18th week or so. I was just really confused bc i know they are suppose to check.

That's crazy.  I would change drs.  Seems to me she's being lazy. She can see the heartbeat by ultrasound by the 9th wk.  And she should check for heartbeat via doppler by ur next visit.  I would change drs if it were me..

I didn't get to hear heart beat until week 14... And I won't get my first ultrasound until well 18... my doctor said there was no medical need to check because I had no issues conceiving and no pregnancy issues. She did do a pelvic exam at week 10 though

There is plenty to see.  You get to see your baby in the early stages and the heart beat. Unless there's an insurance issue I would seek another doctor. Ask other moms in your area about a better ob.

I would consider another doc, i had an ultrasound done right at 8wks, so i would consider somewhere else tht way you know your dd, how big ur baby is a n d hear the heart beat. I guess im extra cautious because i've had 3 miscarriages, but if u dont want to chge buy the baby moniter where u can hear the babys heart beat. Best of luck to you

I had my first ultrasound at my 8 week checkup. I got to see the little peanut and see and hear the heartbeat. I would definitely switch if that's what would make u feel better. Your body your decision who looks after u.

I can understand the ultrasound thing. If they can pinpoint when you got pregnant, there is no reason to do one right away. Its generally if you don't know. If the baby was somewhere it shouldn't be, you would generally have symptoms of this. Most prefer to wait until 18-20 weeks to do the first ultrasound. Sometimes insurance and budget makes it hard for them to do it earlier unless there is a need for it. As for the heartbeat, my doctor checks at every visit, since the first. Its not that hard to do so they should do that for you. Just as long as you are aware you might not hear it right away. Not to sound bad but doctors have to justify everything they do. If your doctor can't justify an ultrasound before a certain point, it could be more that she can't refer one as opposed to her just not wanting to.

I would consider switching.. no that's not true I would not consider, I would just switch. You are the mother and she is working for you. She does not have the right to change her mind, she lied to you and I would not have a Dr that lied to me be responsible for the safety and well being of my child. As long as your insurance allows more than one they should do a confirmation ultrasound. They don't even know if it is a viable pregnancy really without that ultrasound. The pregnancy clinic here even does confirmation ultrasounds and they mainly do pregnancy tests for unexpected or teen mothers. They can't offer or do one if your insurance only gives one but You said they give 3. That should be confirmation, anatomy and positioning in your last month or two... your best bet would be to call and ask the different policies at different drs...

She said she is confident on my dd just bc i told her when i was suppose to get my last period. I may be off you know so why should she go off my word and not do an ultrasound.

I'm pregnant with my 4the and I've always had an ultrasound in the beginning of my pregnancy for dating. You never know if you are off. And I've always had a pelvic exam and pap and all that my first visit. I would definitely switch Drs

I would switch too. Talk to your primary Dr or better yet talk to the nurses or receptionist. That's what I did and I'm so happy. FTM and don't have friends in the area that have had kids to ask about docs. What you really want to look at though is what hospital group they belong to. What birthing center or hospital will they send you to? Most Obs are affiliated with a certain hospital that they deliver at. Good luck.
