which health plan is better?
Mothers in illinois, i need your help please. Family health network, harmony, Illinois health connect or meridian?

I'm on harmony...its HMO so I have to stay with in the network...they have a harmony hugs program with pretty good incentives (free stroller/car seat,diapers for a yr,or pack play) if yu attend all of your prenatal appointments...I have no copays for visits or prescriptions...the list goes on BUT Hmo ,like mentioned before is restricted and is why I wish I dnt have it but over all has been an OK insurance policy for me...if yu want more options care wise choose a ppo.

now all health plan has standardized coverage - so the same deductibles and co-pays. all health plans cover prenatal care.
you have to look if it is a PPO, HMO or EPO
PPO you do not need to see a primary care doctor before seeing a specialist - but you are charged extra if you see a doctor out if the network. So you always have to double check who is in the network
HMO is a closed network, you stick with your primary care doc, and you can't go out of the network HMOs usually have a certain health center or multi-practice clinics they work with, some even own their own hospitals. They can be very easy, since everything is straight forward and the don't question or refuse claims as often since you will not see a specialist or have tests without them being requested by your primary care doc (or OB)
EPO is also a closed network - you can see specialist without going to your primary care doc - but they will not cover any care recieved outside the network.
personally i think EPOs are a really bad deal. - they do have lower premiums, but they are as restrictive in terms of doctors as an HMO without the advantages. - you could end up getting stuck paying full price bills if you go to the wrong lab fir blood work.
