worried

Im 30 weeks pregnant and my husband and I just moved into a very small efficiency apartment.  My husband smokes inside sometimes.  My baby is due in February and im about to make a "no smoking in the house rule" so we can air the place out before the baby comes. Im super worried about the baby getting some kind of resperitory infection. Its not even just the cig smoke I'm worried about.  It is a tiny little garage someone turned into an apartment.  We have done a lot of work like painting and staining and im worried about the fumes from that too.  I cant smell anything but thats probably because im u sed to it. Also we dont get very good ventilation at all because we dont have screens on any of the windows.  There are lizards that hang out right outside the windows and I hate them and when I open the windows they come inside!  Along with spiders and stuff I dont want in my home.  Any smell will make the WHOLE place smell. For example my dog had an accident inside last night and the smell was so overwhelming (even after being cleaned up) that I could barely breathe! I dont know what in the world to do..or if im just over reacting.  We cant afford to move. Help!

I don't live at home with my parents, but the few times I've visited my throat burned from the smoke in the house.  I rarely visit now, and I've pretty much told them that the baby won't be allowed at their house if they can't smoke outside or switch to the e-cigarettes so the house doesn't stink so bad.  They at least bought an e-cigarette to try, so that's nice at least.  But klg22 is right, even now your baby is breathing that through you.  Tell your husband to take it outside for the sake of the baby.

Definitely make sure he smokes outside,  even now- your baby will still be inhaling it through you. Maybe you could get some cheap fly screen or mesh and fix it to the windows so you can open them bug free... also if you haven't had a baby shower yet maybe youcould ask eeveryone to chip in for an air purifier. Or start putting away cash for one now.  Good luck :-)
