Period or What?

I had something strange happen to me. Instead of bleeding on the pad like I normally would, brown, sticky stuff came out instead. I went to the doctor, she took a sample of the blood that's right inside me and told me I'm fine. When using the bathroom, there was blood on the toilet paper but none on the pad. What was happening?

I should mention that I have skipped a period before and was not pregnant. Could this be happening?

Thank you for your response. I'm still confused as to why I was not bleeding. I've always been irregular. Since coming off of birth control the end of August last year, my cycles have gone haywire. Could that still be affecting my body too? Is that why I'm having problems?

If a doctor checked the blood, she was probably checking to see if it was a pregnancy related bleed at all, such as miscarriage, etc. If a doctor told you everything was fine, I'd trust her. Sometimes our periods are just weird because they choose to be weird!
