ECTOPIC PREGNANCY QUESTION

So, Im a little concerned about ectopic pregnancy. I'm a little confused about what to look out for. I have had some sharp pains in my lower right abdomen, but its not persistant. It happens a couple times a day and only lasts for about 5 minutes. I haven't had any spotting  until yesterday when DH and I had sex... after there was a little bit of light pink spotting and nothing since. I've also had this pain in my shoulder(which I read was a symptom of a rupture) but I also work at a desk all day so it may be from that(although its never happened before) Im starting to freak out a little bit. I felt dizzy this morning at work.(Standing outside at attention) im so confused. Can the shoulder pain happen before a rupture? And is the pain constant or can it be off? I just got my referral from my job to see a civilian OB( We don't have any military OB's in the area so I had to be referred to a civilian doc) My appt isn't until Sept 2 and I'm too worried to wait that long! Am I being paranoid or do I need to go get checked out??? HELP!

Just a quick update on the pain I mentioned for anyone still having unexplained pain and worry... My ruled out any ectopic and my ovaries look completely normal with no cysts etc.

In my case they think the pain may be being caused my lesions/scar tissue from the 2 previous C Sections I have had in the past. Apparently it is fairly common when the uterus is stretching.

Hi, I have a sharp rightside pain and was going to post the same question... I too was worried about ectopic but as it comes and goes and is not severe I haven't worried the doctor. I have had no spotting or bleeding either.

I have heard similar things about it being ovary pain and believe that the ovaries still have to work quite hard to maintain the pregnancy until the placenta kicks in and around 12 weeks

I have a scan booked on Tues so I will hopefully be able to see what is going on but I will ask the question about what causes this pain at my appointment with the early pregnancy unit and will post on this thread what their explanation for this is :)

I had some of those same symptoms & called my dr & they took me in right away. This is my first pregnancy so I didnt know what to expect at all & my dr. told me that cramping is 100% normal & actually signifies your uterus/body making room & preparing for the baby. He said unless the pain is only always on one side & is very intense to the point I cant stand it any longer then you have nothing to worry about. I still have the cramps..kinda like a short menstrual cramp only last for a few minutes a couple times throughout the day. I also was having a weird pink/orange spotting which has stopped but my Dr. said your uterus is overflowing with blood right now so you are likely to spot after sex bc it bumps your uterus around a bit.

I'll tell you what I learned when I was worried about ectopic, but my knowledge is definitely not complete.

First, the pink spotting is normal after sex. It usually just means that your cervix became irritated. As long as it doesn't persist or grow heavier, I wouldn't worry about that.

Second, I believe if you have the shoulder pain that signals an ectopic pregnancy, it means it's already ruptured. But at that point, I think you would have other symptoms that would suggest a medical emergency. The pain would be located at the top of your shoulder, so if you're feeling is along your shoulder blade or in the front, it's probably not a problem. I started to imagine shoulder pain when I was worried, but from I read, it would be very distinct and localized on the top of the shoulder.

The pain in the lower right side doesn't necessarily mean it's an ectopic pregnancy. If that's the side you ovulated from, your ovary could still be healing. Also, it's normal to have some aches and pains. As long as they aren't severe or persistent, you're probably ok.

So, to me, it sounds like you're ok. However, if you suspect ectopic, it's never a bad idea to get it checked out because if it does rupture, it's a life-threatening situation. If your symptoms seem to get more severe, I would go to the ER. But right now, I think you can relax. Best of luck!
