Cooper was like that for a while, but he is getting better. As for the teething, I think it is a real possibility. Cooper was *screaming* at night last week and I was going crazy til we tried Baby Orajel and it worked like a charm.
I agree with the other ladies, keep rotating activities and changing his location. I will admit that I pop Cooper in fron of the TV in the morning (Mickey Mouse clubhouse) while I get the others ready for school; he LOVES it! He also likes to lay under his light-up toy-- it's activated by his grabbing the toys that dangle from it-- he can do this for 20-25 minutes at a time. Sometimes I'll sit him in front of the fridge and turn on his big brother's magnetic food toys. He also likes to sit by the sliding glass doors and watch birds and squirrels out the window. I just pop by every couple of minutes and talk to him in an upbeat voice, and he will smile and be content for a while.
He does love to sit and watch his brothers and sister play, too, and the kids at daycare, so I agree that it is easier with #2 (and beyond)! = )
Once he starts sitting, I bet you'll see a big difference in his attention span.
yeah, i'd have to agree with 'tiredbuthappy'... you're expecting him to have an attention span that is just not typical of ANY 3-4mo old... I'm lucky if my little guy will get in his saucer and play with the toys for more than 15 min at a time. . . nor do I expect him to... that actually seems excessive to me, but as long as he's happy I will let him play there... they will go through many phases throughout babyhood, all of which are totally normal... sometimes they might be clingy, sometimes more independent, sometimes not feeling well, sometimes energetic, and sometimes sleepy... like i said - all normal! :)
Thanks .. Maybe I do have high expectations it just seemed like a few weeks ago he was happy sitting in his jumper for like an hour and now he is only happy with it for like 5 minutes. I guess for now I will continue to hold him when he wants it.
i think it's because he loves mommy :) My only suggestion would be to change your expectations...
he may not be ready for the toys to engage him for long, and that's normal for this age. honestly, him listening to music for 15 minutes is impressive and i wouldn't expect a 3 or 4 month old to engaged in an activity for nearly that long. he'll reach his milestones just fine. if you want him to play on the floor then you'll probably have to get down there with him.
my first loved to exersaucer, but i wouldn't have expected her to stay n it for a long time. just keep rotating things. if you need to get stuff done, you can try a baby carrier too. i held my first whenever she wante and i could and she became very secure and independent as she got older, so don't worry too much about spoiling yet. once he learns to use his hands better and sit on his own, it'll get much easier. I also think it's easier with 2- the baby seems to be entertained by watching her sister who's 2 1/2 play.
