What does everyone think to SOYA MILK and have you got any experiences of your baby/ies having an allery to milk?

What does everyone think to soya milk and have you got any experiences of your baby/ies having an allergy to milk? /If so, how was it once you changed on to soya? HELP

It's not being tested yet but I'm quite certain that one of my twin girls has an allery to milk, she is a very unhappy baby, very unsettled, screams from morning to night, won't feed properly, goes very stiff like an ironing board and has developed really bad skin, i.e rashy / dry patches, I understand that this can all be connected with an allery to milk?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME AS I'M HAVING SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME RIGHT NOW?

I'm glad your baby is getting better, with mine he no longer fussy what we can't seem to get rid of him sounding congested with no other symptons of having a cold or fever or being having a cold and the dr said 2 months ago that it was the milk that is why she put him on soy and I have been back 4x. Anyone know why??

my little one was the same exact way. She still sometimes freaks out when I lay her in a feeding position in my arms. Most of the time I still have to feed her in the swing :( It also breaks my heart to think of how much pain she had been in before the meds.

I know, it makes me fill up thinking how much pain she has been in. I'm so happy to see her happy although I think that feeding her still frightens her, like it reminds her of being in pain or something. Poor thing.

i'm so glad she has some relief!!! i remember the difference in my baby with just 1 dose of medication. be sure to go back to the dr if the symptoms flair up. the dosage has to be frequently adjusted as she gains weight.

Thank you all so much.

We went to the hospital the following day (last Thursday) and we were there for 8 hours, yes, 8 hours!! Being passed from pillow to post. We didn't see a specialist until the back end of the day, it was a very long day, just waiting around for that length of time!!

We really expected that they'd be keeping Georgia in to monitor her and to carry out various tests but they didn't, the specialist PRESUMED that she has ACID REFLUX, we didn't think it was this as the doctors had previously already tried her on Gaviscon sachets and she didn't seem any different so acid had been crossed off the list and they were trying her on other things.

We went home quite annoyed, the fact that the specialist just presumed it was that without monitoring her / doing any tests but it looks like she was right, the medicine that she's prescribed works a treat, it's 3 times a day and Georgia is like a different baby, she is feeding very long and is happy afterwards, we were almost crying over the weekend, just to see her being able to feed and enjoy it without getting any pain. However, she has had a few funny moments, I guess that feeding will remind her of pain for some time and her skin is still very bad, the specialist didn't seem to think that she has an allergy to milk. I have still kept her on soya to see if her skin improves but it isn't doing. Her legs feel like sandpaper and I think that the rashes on her face has become infected.

She's got a follow up appiontment this Friday 04th December to see how she's been on the medicine and to review everything, skin etc.

I have tried 5 different milks and at the end he is on soy, his dr told me to go straight to milk she said he has acid reflex and an alergic reaction to the milk. He also had dry skin and often sounded like he was choking when sleeping, he had colic and was fussy, now he is as happy as can be and is 3 and 1/2 months and weighs 16lbs. So I say what ever works for what ever problems the baby has. I also tried the similac sensitve and he was always congested and his dr said change to soy and the same day I switched he was alot better, but I would go to your dr before making any decisions.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. Georgia is WORSE THAN EVER.

The doctor has been referred her to a see a specialist at the hospital but the first appointment isn't available until Monday 14th December, we can't wait any longer,
I've got a baby that is in complete distress and it upsets me to see her this bad.

I've been back to the doctors today and requested that the doctor demands an earlier appointment as she is definitely getting worse, the health visitor tried to request this but apparently the request has to come from a GP so the GP is going to send a letter and fax it across and get back to me. But it's all such a slow process.

My hubby is on his way back from London where he is working away and he wasn't due home until Friday evening, we are both worried sick. We have decided to just take her over to the appropriate department tomorrow morning and request / demand that they see to her then. I'm hoping that they'll admit her for at least a few days, monitor her over a period of time and carry out whatever tests they can.

We've just found out that the doctor that I've been to see today that was going to fax an urgent letter across to the hospital for the appointment to be sooner has gone home sick and so the fax was not sent.

WHAT CHOICE DO WE HAVE OTHER THAN TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL TOMORROW WITH OR WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT AND DEMAND THAT SHE IS SEEN / ADMITTED. IF YOU WAITED FOR THE DOCS THEN ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN. I'M SURE THAT EVERYONE ELSE WOULD DO THE SAME IF IT WAS YOUR BABY?

I breastfeed and use the similac soy as well. I've noticed a huge improvement with her not being as gassy or fussy since I switched from similac regular to soy. Good luck

I breast AND bottle fed from day 2, so i've been using it since he was newborn. i had some 'problems' like these with my last child, so i just went straight to lactose free this time in order to avoid those problems again and sure enough, its working! good luck...   :)

My son uses Similac Sensitive as well.  My pediatrician said to try it bc its lactose free but not soy.  His opinion is that soy should be a last resort.  DS does great on the Similac Sensitive, but due to the symptoms your baby is having I would take her to the pediatrician to make sure it isn't something more serious.  And while you are there bring up formula options.

Hi, thanks soooooo much for your reply!! The soya formula we that we are trying her with is 'Cow & Gate', infasoy, from birth onwards, for a milk free diet. It says, soya infant formula from birth. nutritionally complete, for babies and children requiring a milk free diet.

A pharmacist suggested we try it, it's just to see if she improves with it and if she does then we will choose a milk that is lactose free.

How did you know when you needed to use it???

I agree- see if lactose-free works before going to soy. there is mixed research on soy. Soy is a good option for babies who genuinely can't tolerate milk, but many switch to it before exploring other options. I think that if it were a milk allergy, she would have digestive issues as well. What you describe sounds more like a mixture of reflux and colic.

however, since your little one is having so many problems, you may want to wait and see what the pediatrcian or specialist recommends.

What formula is she on now? I would recommend a Lactose-Free type before I resorted to Soy. "They say" Soy can cause MORE food allergies later on. Not sure how true that is, but I also hear its not as healthy as most believe. Try Similac Sensitive. Its a milk based lactose free formula. My little guy does fine on it. Good Luck!
