choroid plexus cysts

Hi I just had my 18 week ultrasound and everything was great except the doc found choroid plexus cysts on my babys brain. They told me not to worry beacause all my other tests were great. these are common in 1% of pregnancies and usually go away by 28 weeks. My question is this.....my babies father has 3 other children from another marriage. His first child is healthy, second child is deaf and his third I just found out also had these cysts when he was in the womb....now I have them with my this pregnancy.... Is there something linking his genes to cause this???? If it only happens in so many pregnancies and it just so happens his last 2 babies have it???? Please help im so concerned...

My daughter had those cysts on her brain as well. They found them at 14 weeks. They had me come back at 20 weeks for another scan and the cysts had gone away on their own. Like the others said they are common, sometimes not detcted at all because a lot of docs are not doing ultrasounds until 20-22 weeks now so you never even know if they were there. I would not be too worried as long as its just eh cysts by themselves and not any other markers.

With this last preg. my baby had them too.  I was told that they are only of concern if there are other issues.  Our baby had other markers along with the cysts.  If the rest of your testing &/or u/s looked good then I wouldn't worry too much.

Hi! I had never heard of this, so I googled it. There is a website, www.choroidplexuscysts.org
that might help you understand it better. Apparently, these cysts really don't mean a thing by themselves. They just get the Dr. looking for other signs. It could just be a coincidence that 2 of your husbands children had these cysts.
