ps. In my first pregnancy, we found out in the 17th week that we were having a girl. That appt was with my regular doctor, but she too has a pretty good ultrasound machine.
When I was 12w+2d I had to go to a specialist for a second opinion First Trimester Screening. He is very good and has an excellent ultrasound machine. He told us that both our babies were girls. I asked him how sure he was and he said 80%.
We ended up having a CVS because of the increased risk factor we had for both babies (because of extra fluid around their necks)....so the chromosome testing of course confirms the sex. He was right. We found out today both are girls.
i'm going march 5 (16 w) for my next u/s and they will determine the gender. my doc says that his machine in office is not of the same quality as the one they use at the hospital - so i'm not sure about how early they coudl determing that in-office.
forgot to add my ticker... :)
If you go on the "ingender" website, they will explain why a 2d is actually better for gender determination(black/white). The 3d tends to create bumps and bulges that a 2d wont, so a 3d can end up misleading at this early stage. That's just their opinion, but they do seem to be pretty accurate over there. Anyhow, my doc has a 2d in his office and he gives me a glimpse at every appt. Technically I was 14 wks 3 days at my last appt, where he gave me some pretty good odds I am having a boy. He gave me the pic and its pretty convincing, so we'll see. I haven't heard of ultrasound gender determination any sooner than this, OTHER THAN with the "nub shot" between 11-13 weeks(12 wks being the norm) they look at the side profile. The baby's nub will either be at a 30 degree angle or less... you should check out the site, its a fun way to pass the time at the very least... good luck!
tiredbuthappy- I don't remember being this impatient, either, and this is my fourth!! lol
My sono is scheduled for March 20- four long weeks away!! = (
My doc had said between 19-20 weeks, and I am disapointed because that date I will be 20w6d! They just scehduled it with my regular four-week appointment. I probably won't splurge on the 3-D/4-D, though it is very tempting....
drmwvrjean- I'm pretty sure you can tell at 16 weeks; I have seen others find out even sooner! It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor, if you really want to know.
Good luck!
I was 15 weeks, 5 days this past Monday when we found out we're having a boy. However, because of my age I go to a specialist, and I'm pretty sure the machines they have are higher quality than the average machine a regular OB would have. It's the same one they used for the First Trimester Screening, so they take a lot of detailed measurements on it. If I hadn't found out yet, you can bet I'd be making an appointment for a 3D! LOL.
Tricia
my OB also has a regular U/S machine and does one with every visit. He was unable to tell and didn't really bother since the quality of those machines isn't as good as the ones at the hospital.
i am also very impatient, and am actually considering paying for a 3-D u/s since some of the ladies on here found out early what they are having by getting one done. It's funny- i never felt this impatient with my first, probably because i KNEW it was a girl from day 1. I think this one is a girl too, but I'm not as confident as last time.
