For those who have been pregnant...Traveling???

So, I am going to be doing ALOT of traveling (driving) this pregancy and really don't know what to expect.  My biggest question now is I am due Aug 3 by date of LMP, but am measuring 5 days earlier by u/s.  We have to respond to a wedding invitation for July 11th.  (very close cousin to DH), but the drive will be 14 hours.  I was wondering if anyone can tell me how it feels to be in that last two weeks or so of pregnancy.  As the due date seems to get closer, and as long and hard as we have been dreaming of this baby...I am realizing more and more that I really don't know all that much about the later months of pregnancy...as well as when the baby comes LOL!  Let's just say we plan on taking every class avaiable about both issues :)

my doctor would not even let me travel 2 hours away the last two weeks of my pregnancy...so definitely talk to your doctor! all i can say about the last month of pregnancy is UGH - i seriously wanted to wear a diaper cause i was sick of getting up to go pee so much!

Just so you don't feel bad, honey...riding a horse gently for fifteen or thirty minutes is NOWHERE NEAR like riding in a car for 14 hours. With both of my previous pregnancies, I remained active...continued to ride my jet ski and dirt bike (gently, of course) until a week or two before I had both kids. It was nothing like sitting in a car without stretching or moving for hours. You can't really compare the two!

I think you are wise to just ask your MD at your next visit and go from there. He will likely advise against the trip. Whatever you decide, good luck and happy pregnancy!

Not to worry Dani - no formal education or any life experience (other than pregnancy itself) can prepare you for this.

This is my third child and to be honest - I seem to forget half of what I did learn about pregnancy inbetween them all - so I find myself learning all over again.

Thanks everyone...I do think the next step is to see what the dr. says on the 3rd and that will give me a good idea on when I should stop planning trips for.  I am not going to lie, I am not the type to just lay there and suck it up if I am miserable...so I think as this pregnancy progresses DH may not even want to be in the car with me for more that 10 minutes let alone 14 hours LOL!

There is just SO much to learn about pregnancy that I know nothing about!  31 years old, four years of college and I am totally clueless as to what happens after 4 months of pregnancy!

Thats a hard decision. If I were you I would not go, but as for your husband I would incourage him to fly and go by himself. However I'm sure he would feel horrible if you went into labor while he was gone. My suggestion would be to see you OB right before he is to leave and make sure your not dilated ot thinned out and possible ready for labor. If not then he could always go and just make sure he has the funds to get a emergency flight home. Good luck with that one

This is what I was afraid of...I don't see how I am going to be up for it.  I am trying to have DH go by himself since his cousin is more like a brother.  He does not want to leave me though.  This sounds ridiculous, but we can't fly because of our Jack Russell, he must come with us...(never raise a dog so emotionally dependent on you LOL!)

We may be moving back to CO. which is where the wedding is, which would make it easier, but then we have a team-roping that has been scheduled for a year here in ID on July 18th.  I think no matter what I am going to have to not go to one of them.
My DH can't understand quite yet why it is going to be so difficult to travel, he knew someone who rode a horse until the week before she was due (I exlained that she was a complete fool and she could have put her and her baby in serious trouble).  My friend here also one of those really easy TV pregnancies from begining to end.  Never got sick, only gained baby weight and walked out of the hospital in her size 0 jeans, delivered a day after her due date and the labor took like 2 hours, oh and was riding her horse a couple days after she delivered!
So far my pregnancy was:  Told I had a m/c, found a h/b 9 days later...vomiting for 2 months straight, dizzy and SO tired...and I am only 12 weeks!
We are going to my next appointment on the 3rd and I am going to ask the dr. about traveling and I fully expect him to tell me it is not such a good idea and the reasons why which DH will here.  DH is so paranoid about doing anything wrong for the baby that he will be fine with not going anywhere, I just think he needs to read some of your stories and hear what the dr. has to say!  Thankyou all so much for your honest responses and I can't wait to all be talking about how miserable we are on here when we get to July!!  :)

Remember how everyone made New Year's Eve 1999 plans months in advance? My best friend and I had bought tickets for a concert in Phoenix (a 6-hour drive) for that night...we bought them almost a year in advance. I ended up getting pregnant in June with my son. My due date was Feb 26th. As the concert approached, I was concerned. My MD told me NOT to drive that far in a car at 7.5 months pregnant...he said that if I still wanted to go, I would need to fly. Then he gave me the name of a colleague to call in Phoenix if I needed to. Soooo...I'm thinking that if my MD didn't want me to drive six hours at only 7.5 months, YOUR MD may have an issue with a 14-hour drive at almost term! Besides...at that point, EVERYTHING aches. 14 hours in a car would be torture. Can you fly? That probably would be okay!

Well I can tell you that with me, I traveled alot and I had stopped like every 3 hours so I could stretch b/c my legs would start swelling up. I'm not very sure that in July though you'll be up for traveling that far. I think you should talk to your Doctor about that, b/c my Doctor told me not to travel in the last month. .
But everyone is different. GOod Luck

You couldn't force me to be in a car that long in late pregnancy!! I totally agree with all of the above - the swelling and general discomfort would make me miserable for that whole drive.

We were invited to a wedding when I was pg with my daughter that was an 8 hour drive away. The wedding was when I was 32 weeks and even though my dr. cleared me to travel,  I declined for all of the above reasons, but, my husband went. Could your husband attend on behalf of the family?

i personally wouldn't drive 14 hours that late in pregnancy. you will be miserable. and the summer is terrible- you will have a lot of swelling even if you have a healthy pregnancy. i swore i would never be that pregnant in the summer again. oops. seems i forgot.

if you peek at the pregnancy forum, you can see how many people are b!tching and whining, praying their baby comes early because they are so miserable. you will have to pee every hour, your back will be killing you. you have to stop and move very frequently to keep blood circulating (clots are a danger to pregnant women). if something goes wrong, or if labor starts, you will be very far from home and your doctor.

most people make it to 40 weeks with their first pregnancy, but many don't. i made it to 36 weeks due to complications. my friend, with a completely normal and healthy pregnancy, had hers at 38 weeks.
