Peripartum Cardiomyopathy

Anyone out there developed this post birth?  Probably not, my cardiologist says only 1-2% of the women who deliver develope this.  Pretty much it is congestive heart failure.  I developed post partum pre-eclampsia after I delivered Carsyn.  It started with a massive headache, swelling in my legs and feet along wih elevated blood pressure.  My ob/gyn said it was nothing he was going to get too excited about.  2 days later I am in the Emergency Dept because I am having severe difficulty breathing.  

I am on a ton of heart medications and I can't breastfeed Carsyn, that really breaks my heart since I can't have any more children.  The cardiologist told me another birth would kill me.  

Anyone out there know anyone else that went through this?

thank you for thinking about me.  If you believe in Christ prayers would be helpful also.  My cardiologist believes I will be on these mess for 6 months.  I'm praying less than that.   I have been pumping and dumping but it is so hard because I see her wanting to nurse and the formula is so hard on her.  I know pumping is not the same as nursing her but I am determined to keep up my milk supply and hopefully he van switch me to some meds that are safe in nursing her.

I do not have the same thing but I do have multiple arrythmias and mitral valve prolapse and am on heart medications. I just wanted to let you know that there are heart medications that are safe to breastfeed while on.

Oh my I am so sorry! I have never heard of this either! Thank goodness you took action into your own hands!

How long will you be on the Rx, because Tabby had a good idea about pumping and dumping.

I havent had this or went through it before but I wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you. I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you can pump your milk and toss untill its safe to give to Carsyn?? Just an idea:) Hugs:)
