Baby bedding

I don't want to seem dumb but this is our first baby and I was wondering if I should wash the bedding before I put it in the crib??

I also think about all the people that have gone through the clothes that you bought.  Think of all those grimey little fingers touching everything LOL!

Personally I would wash the bedding and be sure that it's 100% clean.  I have a 5 year old and often after buying new stuff I wash it first before he wears it.  Being 7 months pregnant I'm going to be scrutinizing everything I buy for my new baby and if I have any doubts I'll wash it.  If you are going to wash it also be careful what washing powder you'll use, the baby might just react to it!!!
I suppose if you trust the place you bought it from and believe that it's absolutely ok to put your new born baby in it then follow your instincts.

seeing as 99% of baby stuff (all stuff for that matter....) is made in china, I would. I just remembered to buy Dreft yesterday so Im not stuck doing tons of laundry later on. Also, pick up some Biz for later use. It blows oxyclean out of the water for a pretreat for formula/ milk stains, and its not rough on the skin.

Actually to prevent SIDS you should have a lot of betting in the crib.  Just put a sheet in the crib...no bumpers, no quilts and don't use a lot blankets.   They also recommend using halo sacks or sleep sacks instead of blankets.   And yes wash the sheet and halo sack and blanket.   As far as a quilt you may have  (if you got a set) it is more for looks and not for using.   You will probably be wrapping baby up in receiving blankets and putting them to sleep like that at night.

As far as washing stuff before baby uses, I don't know if it's recommeneded or what the rule of thumb is, but I've always washed the clothes first and used a gentle detergent such as Ivory Snow or Dreft.  Their skin is very delicate at first and the washing softens things up.

As far as bedding for a cradle or bassinet, I'd washed the sheets and what not before baby uses.  And wash all your receiving blankets and other blankets first too.   Maybe it's an old school of thought, but I was told this was recommened at the time of my last baby which was 14 yrs ago.

Good luck.

I guess it depends on you bc I don't like washing most of the blankets bc they fade and will never look the same and I want them to look new for the new baby, the only stuff I was over and over is the stuff I buy that is used.
