Alternatives to an Epideral

I am expecting my 4th child in Dec. and am a little scared. I have had bad experiences with epiderals with my last pregnancy the epideral tube got stuck in my back and the nurse was quiet rough trying to get it out. I was wondering if there are any other alternatives that i should try.

hey there,
well i am preggers with #4 as well and i have not had a epidural yet and probley wont, due to a fear of needles but all three of my kids i used demeral which was administered threw the ivy it does make you sleepy but sleep is a need when your in labor we all know this one, and it only takes the edge off the contractions, it does allow you total control of your body so getting up and moving around after the baby is born is defently plosible, i never had a problem with latching of or my children acting funny, yes cause it does go threw the blood stream it can effect the baby on the inside but honestly iv'e not had a bad experiance. when it come to pain meds i would say it varies to your pain tolerance i have a high pain tolerance so i only use the ivy drugs. do your reserch and always have a back up plan if i may add with it being your fourth it should not take long. so it is possible a epidural may not be an option like me i have rapid labor ive never had time for one even if i wanted it. and the demeral you can have more then once up till delevery i had one shot about 45 min before i deleverd only draw back was it hit full steam after words so it was a nap time for me ;). i wish you luck and hope you find a good alternitive. hope this helps from someone that has not had a epidural yet.

well theirs morphine and demerol which are very similar to each other
but they only last 1-2 hours and are only used in the middle stages of labor
which are around 4-6 cm dialated but not afterwards because of something about
it makes the baby after birth real sleepy to where it might not breathe right

then theirs nubain which isnt the stongest drug but is supposed to just take the edge off and make it more tolerable
a plus about that drug is it wont cause muscle weakness so your in control of all your muscles
but a negative is its supposed to make you very tired

and theirs stadol which is administered through your iv
i dont know to much about that one
except Babies affected by narcotics such as stadol can have more difficulty in breathing as well as latching on well to breastfeed

but hope this helps
im also looking for something else besides an epidural
although my experience with an epidural last time was pretty good
i just wanna know my options this time around
