Has anyone here had the H1N1 virus yet??

I am due in 6 weeks.  With all this media hype I am scared to death about contracting the H1n1 virus.  They are making it sound like if you are pregnant and get it, that you are doomed.

So I was just wondering if anyone here has had it, and made it through okay?  If so, did you have Tamiflu or not?

My sons and husband had the H1n1 last week, and I called my Dr right away and got on Tamiflu, which prevented me from getting sick at all.  Trust me, I was very unsure about taking the Tamiflu, but I felt it was better than ending up very sick or dead.  I still worry about what adverse effects the drug might have on my unborn baby.  Anyway, we made it through the difficult week okay, but now I find out that since I never showed any symptoms, that I have no immunity to the virus and could end up sick again.  If that happens, then I will have to take Tamiflu AGAIN, that is, if they will even give me more and if its even available at that point with the way it has been flying off of the shelves in the pharmacies around here.

I am just scared and shaken up and its controlling my life and stressing me out.  Does anyone else feel this way?  About the vaccine, I am not even sure I want it, and even if I decided that I do, no one around here has it yet.

So, basically my question is, has anyone here survived the H1n1 virus without serious complications??

Thanks for your input!

I haven't had the virus (thankfully), but I just got the vaccine yesterday. My obgyn HIGHLY recommended it. He said it's especially important in the third trimester, since the baby is much bigger and our lungs are already being compromised, leaving us much more susceptible to  respiratory complications (which seems to be the major reason why some patients with H1N1 die). As for it not being studied enough...I guess it's made the same way the annual flu shot is made, which changes every year also (because of different strains), so it's no less tested than the regular flu vaccine.

With all the hoopla out there, though, I have been a little nervous about it too...but it seems like all the scares are brought up by people who are NOT in the medical field, while medical professionals agree that it is both safe and important for pregnant women to get it. Plus, I guess it also passes some of the immunity on to the baby, which is not able to get any of the vaccines until at least 6 months of age.

I don't know...it seemed to be the right decision to me at least.

It really worries me also.  I do know a few pregnant women who contracted the virus and survived.  I am sure alot of pregnant women have caught it and been fine. But, I also know of ones who have contracted the H1N1 and have sadly passed.  One of my moms employees had to take off for a funeral last week. Her friend who was in her last trimester of pregnancy had died of complications of the h1n1 virus. Her baby did survive. I think it is a big deal and it is something to be very cautious about. Also alot of women say that they have had H1N1 and were never tested for it...only had symptoms...so how do we really know who has actually had it or not?

If you go to the CDC website it can give you some statistics on pregnant women and h1n1.
