Gaining Weight

From my scale progression, it looks like I'm a total pig!  Really I'm not!  I gained another .2 of a lb since yesterday and I really didn't eat much yesterday (less than 2000 calories).  I gained 5lbs for 4 days in Hong Kong!  I did a lot more than eat while I was there and while the foods were different from usual, I can hardly believe I ate 17,500 calories extra in 4 days!  My weight seems to be totally out of control.  To gain 10lbs in 1 month I would have to eat 35000 extra calories in a month, which is 1000 extra calories a day.  I don't! And I exercise!  But I have gained 10lbs the last 2 months.... mind you most of it happened in just a couple of days jump!

Some has to be water and my lower legs are quite swollen - they don't always go down overnight.  And my belly is very noticeably growing.  But this doesn't make sense from a mass balance point of view!  :(

I'm going to be scolded big time by my doctors when I see them next! I was told in no uncertain terms that I should try not to gain weight (overweight to start with, hypothyroid and gd - on insulin). Makes me want to not see them (though I know I must).  Maybe I should show them my weight monitoring charts!  (in my pregnancy tracker)!  This is so depressing!  I want to diet, but know one shouldn't... still I'll have to try eating less, much less to get this weight gain under control! :(

Hope I'm not the only one growing exponentially.

Hi,

Don't worry about the weight gain or not (yeah, I can talk), as we are all different... as long as you are eating and the baby is obviously growing all will be fine.

I found out that I wasn't gaining ****!  I was thinking I was gaining so much weight, but one I seen the new doctor, they noticed I wasn't where I was at 8 weeks pregnant...I lost 6 pounds, gained 2 pounds, stayed the same for 2 months and I JUST hit the weight I was at 8 weeks...WHAT THE HELL??  Usually I'm about 20 pounds over.  I know I'm running around more because of the kids.  I forget to eat/drink anything, but OMG I've gained NOTHING!!  They told me they realyl want me to start gaining from this point on, but how could I not!?!  My belly is a beachball and it's hurting me so bad in my hips, back and belly stretched as far as it can go!!  Only 15 more weeks for me and I can't wait!!  Scared like **** it might be morethen one or just an oddly HUGE baby...I really don't want a c-section. LOL

Hi,
thanks.  Got myself really upset today about weight.  So counterproductive and stops me doing all the things I should be doing. And i've got so much work stuff thats super urgent and my responsibility... and can't be delegated.

Talked to my obe by text.  She's not worried about the swelling told me it's normal and not much can do about it and asked me just to control what I eat. No word from my endo, but he's going to have a lot to say.... he hit the roof about the last gain and this is the same in less time.  Anyway, no schedule for them for another 2 weeks so I'll just deal with it for now and try to stop gaining then it won't look so bad when I see them next....

Will try stockings again tomorrow and see if they help (have about 6 hours driving to do for an out of town site meeting) which won't help.

Drinking water does help. But sometimes I feel it all goes in and nothing goes out.... ;}

I am going to breastfeed.  And I plan on joining a triathlon (if the gods are smiling on me and my efforts) about 4 months after the baby is born. Want to do another ironman by end of next year (a dream, maybe... but something to aim for - and I have team mates targeting that one so I have people to train with and mutually encourage eachother)  Is so hard going from athletic (relatively speaking) to feeling like a beached whale.. all I can do comfortably now is swim.... maybe this is just mid-pregnancy hormone induced depression.

On the positive side went and got a really really nice haircut tonight.  So anyway my head is super cute, regardless of the rest of me. Better go to bed, super early start... am sure not quite enough sleep is also not helping....

Thanks all. Just venting here.  Can't really talk to anyone in person so you guys are all my outlet.

Sorry your having such a hard time with this. I wish you would do yourself a favor and stay off the scale for awhile. Most of your weight gain is going to happen now and there isn't much you can do about it. Your baby is no longer gaining weight in the areas of bone mass and organs as it is for fat and survival now and they need you to eat when you are hungry! The best thing you can do for yourself is when you get hungry eat the healthiest option available something with lots of protein so you feel full helps a lot too. Has the doc said anything about the water retention, have your tried any support stockings to keep it down??? How much water are you drinking per day sometimes it helps to drink even more. Its hard to deal with all that and the sugar thing on top but you need to stop being so hard on yourself. Believe me all of us are looking forward to getting our pre-baby bodies back but your right that you have to wait it out. If you plan to breastfeed that should help immensely. After my son was born I was back to my pre-preg siz minus another 11 pounds at 8 weeks post, I think I gained 28 pounds with him. So I am definately looking forward to having that bonus again and hoping I can be successfull with breastfeeding this time around. PLEASE try not to stress it makes me sad that you are so upset about the weight gain and I am sure your docs are not being very helpful or understanding. If you have explained it to them and they are still convinced your a closet eater than go somewhere else - you shouldn't want to avoid your visits because of that stuff!!!

I had a look at your pictures, and you do not look overweight at all, let alone to start with.

Just keep eating healthily and excercising, and try not to worry what the scales say. You know when you have been good or not, and the rest is just pregnancy.

..... 10 lbs per month in the last 2 months that is.... geez! 3 1/2 months to go - that would give me a 50lb gain if I don't get a handle on this!
