My doctor told me they do it 24-28 weeks, no later then that!!!! I get mine done on the 25th at the 28 weeks check-up. Then I get that lovely Rhogam shot...and HOPEFULLY an U/S!! This baby doesn't want to flip. :(
But I'd seriously mention that you haven;t had glucose testing done yet because that would be horrible to have GD and not know it.
I passed fine with my son, failed the 1 hour-but passes the 3 hour wit hthe twins...so we'll see with this one....
As of drinking that orange drink 3 times in those three hours- NOOOOO!!!!!!!! You just drink it once and they wantto make sure your body can break down that one serving of drink. If it stays high for the remander of those 3 hours, then you have diabetes. So just one time :) But 3 pokes :(
I just had my test yesterday. the nurse said no news is good news so if they do not call me, then all was well and i will find out my next appt. if all went bad, then they will call and get me in for the 3 hour one.
Do you really have to drink that drink 3 times with the 3 hour test?
You generally won't feel anything if you have GD, unless it was really really bad. If you do have it what happens? YOu get to follow a lower carb diet plan and exercise more and you get to monitor your blood sugars several times a day. If that doesn't work you get put on insulin. Not good, but not as bad as it seems from the outside.
I was diagnosed with diabetes at about 6 weeks pregnant and I started on insulin at about 3 1/2 months... Not fun, but definitely manageable.
S
i had mine done and im really freaking out that i have GD! they said my level was high. im really worried. i dont feel bad or a/t so im not really sure what happens if i DO have GD. g-d i am really worried. i dont want to do that nasty test either. im just going to have faith that i dont..
Hi,
Me too. Absolutely no family history of diabetes or GD anywhere that I know of. But I failed the 3 hour test as soon as they tested me at 6 weeks pregnant (my endo always believed I have diabetes, but had not tested positive before - probably cause it was controlled with diet and exercise).
Unlike you I did not manage with just diet and I was put on insulin just after 3 months. In a way being on insulin is easier because although I still have to be careful with diet, the insulin helps a lot. I monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day - at different times of the day (total of 6 possible testing times).
Having high blood sugar increases risks for baby so I think it is important to be tested. Though of course better if you can manage with just diet and exercise.
Hey Gina: There is no story of GD in my family, Ive always been healthy. To my surprise, I failed both tests, so the Dr diagnosed it. They put me on a special diet and I monitos my sugar levels twice a day, thats it...
Its very important that you get this test, for you and your baby's health...
Good luck!
JOhanna
Got my results back as well...No GD!! So I was relieved....still going to start hitting the salads more...and the gym!
I went to the lab and did my 1 hr test on Thursday. I have never had GD with any of my pregnancies so I am expecting everything to come back fine... It wasn't that bad this time as they didn't want me fasting, but 1 hr after a meal drink the orange drink, wait an hr, and then blood test. no biggie...
I am happy to say that I do not have gestational diabetes. I was tested last week and found out my results yesterday. Totally made my day that's forsure, Christmas goodies here I come, haha! I thought I would forsure have it due to lots of weight gain, grandma having diabetes and my mom had gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with me.
Yes, every woman is normally tested for gestational diabetes whether their family has a history of it or not. Some women are completely healthy with no issues whatsoever and end up with GD. Make sure you ask your doctor because I know it is important.
I was thinking about looking into a 3d/4d ultrasound....and I know insurance doesnt cover it...so I would have to pay out of pocket! Does anyone know the cost? I would love to have one done! But if its too pricey...I guess I can wait 13 more weeks til she is here!
I dont think anyone in my family has gestational diabetes, I'm young, not nor have ever been overweight and I'm very very healthy. But I'm just confused, if this is something every Pregnant woman is tested for, why my old doctor never brought it to my attention ?
I'll be seeing my new doctor next week so that'll be the first thing I ask them. Thanks ladies!
Anyone else looking into a 3D U/S? My best friend is an U/S Tech and she said the best time to get it done is between 28-32 weeks, I guess thats when your baby looks more developed and you can see everything! So I was thinking of scheduling one of those..anyone else?
i have my one hour glucose test this upcoming monday. my doctor says they usually give every pregnant woman the test between 24-28 weeks because gestational diabetes can be very dangerous in not controlled as mich as possible.
Gina call your doctor ASAP to gte this scheduled.
I just had my 1hr glucose test done last week. I am assuming that I passed or surely the doctor would have rung me??
Hi,
I think they normally do it about 27 - 30 weeks. So you would be right on target if they're going to do it. Some doctors do it routinely, but others only do it if they consider you have risk factors: age, weight, race, medical history that would make it likely.
SAR girl, if you suspect a problem you can always ask them to do a fasting blood sugar which would detect any significant problem (and much easier than the glucose test).
Does everyone have to have that test? I'm almost 29 weeks and haven't had it yet. Granted we're in the process of moving and haven't gone in to see my new doctor yet but when that does happen I'll be 30 weeks..is that too late to have it done? My old doctor never even mentioned it. I had a ton of blood tests taken but never a glucose ? Weird, I'll have to bring that up to my new doctor.
I got the 1 hour one yesterday, and go for my 28 week OBGYN tomorrow to find out the results!! Yeah, that drink is kinda nasty...I think the worst part is doing it on an empty stomach....I did it at 8:00 am...so I took all my vitamins on an empty stomach, and didn't eat breakfast...so I was feeling slightly nauseous as it was...then drink that drink, and sit there for an hour. That made it worse, I didn't vomit, but my stomach did not feel well....I was soo glad when they finally took all those viles of blood, it meant I could leave and go eat!!!
With my son, I gained most of my weight in the last 6 weeks (sorry), I really did feel that I may have had gestational diabetes then, because I was really swollen, but they never tested me again....So just be careful that last month or so...stick with fruits and veggies...stay away from sweets and breads!!! I need to prectice what I preach as well!!
Jonelle and Lance,
good luck wiht your tests.
I never got the 1 hr test. My endo ordered the 3 hour test as soon as I told him I was pregnant - about 6 weeks. The test not too bad, just boring and the drink tastes disgusting, plus fun being stuck 4 times for blood.
Let us know how you go.
I had one glucose test done at 14 weeks, that one came back fine. I have another this coming Wednesday. Due to my weight and family history i get to have it done twice.....
I have not had my glucose test yet..however, I have an appt to have it done this Saturday, the 15th at 7am!
Hopefully i will pass!!! Because I definetely do NOT want to have to do the three hour test!
