Vaccinations while pregnant

I am currently 14 weeks 3 days and today is my last day on vacation in Mexico. A cobos, similar to a racoon jumped at me today from a tree (the pathway to the rooms is in a jungle like atmosphere) and bit my hand. The hotel said its because people feed these wild animals yet I had no food with me. Went to the hospital and they told me it was safe and no causes of abonormailities or miscarriages result in the rabies vaccination. I had the first of 5 shots today. They said if I do not get vaccinated I would die from rabies if I did get it from the animal bite. Has anyone heard differently? We head back to canada tomorrow.

I would think if the raccoon didn't have rabies you wouldn't need the shot. But without the raccoon and know testing of it there is no way to tell. That's a tough call. Maybe search VAERS to see. It's where all side effects and fatalities are supposed to be reported when a vaccine reaction has occurred. Also, ask for the rabies pocket insert next time and read it before you get the shot. You may be able to actually find it online. NVIC may be helpful too. National Vaccine Information Center.
