12 weeks and cramping

Hi Everyone,
I am 12 weeks today and last night I started experiencing weird twinges. Today I am experiencing some slight cramping and discomfort. I haven't had much cramping at all during this pregnancy (except at the very start), should I be worried? Why would I start cramping now?

I just had my 12 week scan and everything was fine! On the day I thought I was 12w1d and it was measuring 12w2d - right on schedule! It was kicking around, it was so cute! So good to see everything is OK. Thanks everyone

I have been crampy too. I was told that I am having round ligament pain. You also have to realize how much your body is going to start contorting soon as well. So, your body is just getting ready for the amount your baby will grow in the next few weeks. If I remember correctly baby usually grows a cm a week from now until sometime in the 3rd trimester when they stop growing as much and start putting on baby fat. 5cm is roughly 2.5 inches so every 5 weeks baby grows 2.5 inches on average and that equates to alot of growing for the uterus.

I agree with stresshead... for me cramping comes mainly when I am constipated or gassy. If you get crampy besides these reasons..I recommend drinking ice cold water. That helps.

Its kind of funny because I posted this exact same thing on the Pregnancy 21-34 forum at the beginning of this week. I am 12 weeks, 3 days, and having more cramping than I have previously. It feels just like menstrual cramps, and sometimes I also have stabbing/pulling sensations, but mostly cramping just like if I were in the peak of AF.  I called my doc because I was nervous they said not to worry, so I rented a doppler and found a very healthy heartrate, in the 160's.  Since I know that the baby is healthy and doing well I am just chalking it up to growing pains. Our uterus is growing rapidly and baby is too.....  But it is reassuring to know that we are both experiencing this, it is not unique.

I've had that for ages and sometimes it's unpleasant stabbing sensations. I'm having twins and I am tiny so I assumed it was my uterus stretching more quickly. I think it is normal and your uterus is starting to stretch to fit your baby in.

Other reasons I cramp are constipation - TMI but I can feel my poo transitioning my digestive tract and that hurts right each side and can feel like its in your uterus. Also I have terrible trapped wind and that also causes me pain and discomfort.
