Cats

We got my daughter a cat this weekend.  Now I am freaking out about Toxoplasmosis.  Anyone have any advice?  Everything I've read says let someone else clean the litter box.  I can do that.  Can I take the cat to be tested for this?  The only way I think it could have been infected is if the mother had it and passed it on.  Arrrggghhh.  One more thing to call the doctor about!!!

If you have an inside cat you don't even have to worry about the litter since your cat cannot get it unless it eats some raw meat or grass outside.

I grew up with cats and my MD said I probably had toxoplasmosis and thought I just had the flu.  I read that it takes about 2 days for the feces to become containmented, so if the box is cleaned everyday, it won't have a chance to get containmented.  Also, like stated above, if you do clean the box, wear gloves and a mask.

We have cats now and DH takes care of the box every 2 days.  I handle my cats all the time and Im not worried.

Really, I love not having to clean the box, so take advantage of it!

I have two cats. I just let someone else clean the litter box. You'll be fine. Even petting on them won't hurt you. Alot of people have already had toxoplasmosis and didn't even know it. You could have your doc test to see if you have already formed an immunity.

everything i have read since i have a cat too has said that u could even clean the box urself as long as u r doing it daily.although if possible id have someone else do it anyway to be safe.but if u cant wear gloves and a mask, they say that the feces will only be contaminated if left to sit for days.
