My friend that was given PIT before she had her epidural (she went 18 hours without) since said her doctor wouldn't give her more PIT to get her labor going unless she had an epidural b/c the contractions would be very very strong.
She ended up with an epidural or it would have been a c-section since her baby was "stuck." Her DD was born with her arm stretched out next to her head. Basically, a shoulder presentation.
Each woman is different and I say, the advice above is really good. Talk to your doctor, that is you best bet!
It depends on how prepared your body is. I have a friend who was induced. She was at 2 cm so she had already started to soften and dilate. It also depends on how much they have to augment labor with the pitocin. The more they give you the more your body will work and the more it will hurt. Be sure to express your concerns with the doc and opt for the least amount of pitocin as possible to get labor started. Once labor has started you might ask that the pitocin be stopped to see if your body picks up from there. If it doesn't then you can be given a second dose to get you going again.
You and I are planning on the same drug free labor. But, my doctor has also mentioned induction. Everything that I have read says that indution hurts much worse than regular plabor, because the pitocin that is used makes the contractions harder and faster. Obviously I have no personal expereince, but I have definatly heard what you are talking about. I have to say that I am thinking if I do end up being induced I am going to try to go drug free, but if I can't do it I wont take it personally. What I have alsways wanted was a natural birth, but starting off with pitocin takes the natural element away from the beginning...... maybe I can try for natural next time. I guess what I am saying is that there are so many what if's for me right now, while I am hoping for drug free, Im trying to stay open minded.
