I took the one hour gloucose test on Friday.  Can any one tell me how long it takes to get the test results back?

There are plenty of ways to buy vegemite in the USA. This was the first one that I found when looking for an online site- http://www.aussieproducts.com/vegemite.asp

But I'm sure if you had a look around you could find one with cheaper postage/delivery.

It is hard to describe vegemite. It is salty and used sparingly. Most travellers spread it thickly and then loudly proclaim it to be disgusting, but it is yummy on toast with butter or in a cheese sandwich or in cooking. The official vegemite website supplies recipes that include- pizza (as sauce), in pies, in soups, in kebabs and many other things.

Another online shop for USA -  http://www.aussiefoodshop.com/australian_food_home.html

If you end up buying it let me know if you like it!    :)

I took the 1 hour test and it came back +. My doctor made me take the 3 hour test to double check, because sometimes the 1 hour test can have a false +.

That is neat that it has so much nutritional value. Does sound good after that. But can you buy it in the US? I hav enever seen it even at the big ethnic stores taht have areas for different regions. What does it taste like?? I saw on bizzar foods that kids love it but lots of travelers hate to even try it and end up not liking it. I eat mostly organic foods so I would say I have a wide food palate that is not covered by salts and sweets.

What's so good about Vegemite

Vegemite is a nutritious and versatile food. In fact, it's one of the world's richest sources of B group vitamins. B vitamins assist in converting carbohydrate, protein and fat in food into much needed energy for the body. In addition, B vitamins are important for proper functioning of the nervous system, muscle and brain. Some B vitamins such as B6 and folate are required for production of red blood cells in the body, whereas niacin helps maintain healthy skin and a digestive tract.
Vegemite

    * Has no artificial colours or flavours
    * Is virtually fat-free
    * Contains no added sugar
    * Contains protein
    * Is suitable for Vegetarians
    * Is more tooth friendly compared to jam or choc nut spreads
    * Makes a delicious and nutritious breakfast
    * Has only 40kJ in a 5g serve
    * Is Kosher
    * Is Halal

What's in Vegemite?

    * A rich source of thiamine, riboflavin and niacin (25% RDI*)
    * A rich source of folate (50% RDI* or 25% RDI for women of childbearing age)

*RDI = Recommended Daily Intake

Ingredients include- yeast extract, malt extract, salt, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin and folate.

I took mine today - had to go to a lab and wait in line for my name to be called - I did not see the sign that said "please notifiy us if you are here for a glucose tolerence test" - so I waited 1 hour to get the drink then the 1 hour after the drink - I was hungry... it was not bad...

I was never told to fast at all and failed. I do not think that my dr (old now) was very good though.

Vegemite is and Australian thing! What is it made of??? It does not look very appealing to me.

I was told by my OB to do the test in the morning. He said to avoid sugar with breakfast (no jam, juice or cereal containing sugar) and then to eat nothing for 2 hours and then have the test. His suggestion for breakfast was vegemite on toast. I think vegemite is an Australian thing though so maybe peanut butter would do instead..

No, my dr. told me I can eat eggs and drink water before my test because I had it in the morning.  They said is ok to eat protein.

They told me the results would be back that day, when I hadn't heard anything I called & got my results the next day - I don't think a lot of OBs rush to call you unless it's abnormal. Call them :)

They just called and said that the results will be in Tuesday afternoon.  They also told me that the reason I didn't get it back today was because they sent it out very late on Friday even though I took the test early morning.
