Ultrasound - Use of Gender by Tech

Has anyone experience their ultrasound technician using gender when referring to your baby and you haven't been told what the gender is yet?  My ultrasound technician did this at our last appointment and then she corrected herself by saying, "opps, I don't know why I said that!  I meant to say baby, not him!"  So now I'm wondering if she saw male gender parts and didn't want to lead us on right then (this was my 13 week scan).  Any thoughts?!

I agree with all the comments. At 13 weeks its too early to tell the sex. It is probably a reflex action. I used to refer to my baby as a he until we found out "he" was a she. If you dont want to find out the sex at your next scan ask the ultrasound tech if she can refer to the baby as a certain thing or ask her if she usually uses one gender or the other because then you wont be left wondering :)

Some techs just like to say him or her instead of saying baby or it all the time. I know if I was a tech, I would probably do the same thing. Whenever I am pregnant, we always call the baby "him" or we have a nickname because saying "baby" over and over exhausts me! And "it" is not an option in my mind. lol

But at a 13 week scan, it's too early to tell, so the tech just probably does that until you find out the gender.

When I was pg the first time, the tech at the office always said him.At the first visit it was too early to tell the gender. She told me that she always calls the babies she sees during u/s "him" unless the gender is known b/c she does not feel comfortable calling the baby it.

No ...but we always refer to the baby as him for now. And when we had our nt scan the tech told us it was too early and she couldn't tell but because we were referring to the baby as him she did as well. It may have just been a way to personalize it. Baby or it makes it not seem real to me, that is why I always say him...
