scan 2-3 weeks behind???

Hi i had a scan at around 8 weeks, only it only measured 3mm the size at 5 weeks with sign of a bleed. i miscarried 2 years ago and had pain and bleeding but have had none of that this time. im due a scan this week to see if it has grown, if it has it may measure about 7 weeks. Im so confused, can it be possible to catch up growth?? as my dates are correct. my last period was 19th sept 09. I just would like to know if anyone is having a similar experience to me.

My midwife told me that I was supposed to be 8 weeks and two days but when she did the ultrasound it showed 5 mm which is the size of a 6 week 2 day old. She asked if my periods where irregular and I said yes. She said that I may have ovulated a bit late and that may be why it was measuring small. So I don't think you should have to worry about that. My LMP was September 2nd.

Was this your first scan?  If so, then it could be that you just ovulated later than you normally do, and the baby is actually only 5 weeks.  I knew that I probably ovulated late the month I got pregnant, I was tracking my cycle, but they wanted me to come in just in case.  Going by my LMP, I should have been 2 weeks ahead of what I actually was : )
