circumcision

Ok ladies with boys is circumcision a thing of the past or are people still opting to have their sons circumcised? I was just wondering because I have been seeing a lot of debate about this topic and I always thought that the majority of people get it down unless for religious beliefs or it is not in their custom or maybe they just don't want to.

It is much much less common to routinely circumcise than it used to be. The argument of 'locker room teasing' no longer holds any weight whatsoever - even in the US it isn't done nearly as frequently, and boys will definitely see both kinds (because boys compare, of course). It used to be "the norm" but it really isn't anymore.
It is a very personal decision to be made with a lot of thought put into it. There are arguments for both sides and it is a very highly controversial subject in groups like this.
It is considered by most insurance companies to be entirely cosmetic and not medically necessary - so most insurances won't cover the costs anymore, costing parents a significant amount of money out of pocket (four years ago when my son was born I was told it would cost $400 if we chose to do it, the price can only have gone up since then, though obviously prices differ by location).
I can't speak for every facility but I know for sure that the hospitals near me all use anesthesia for circumcision - since my nursing clinicals required a lot of time spent in newborn nurseries and postpartum units, I've witnessed the procedure several times and always with numbing agents.
There are many questions to ask your doctor or midwife and the pediatrician you have chosen for your child. It is not an easy question for every family - it was a tough one for us. But it is important to look at both options with an open mind to make sure you and your partner are choosing what's best for your son.

I have the sense that it is very much the norm to have your son circumcised. I think especially in the US it is expected that you will do it as opposed to not. We're having a girl this time, but we talked about it a lot before we knew the gender, and we will not be having our (possible) future sons circumcised. We see it as mutilation, but I don't think that people who do it are bad. It's just not something we want to do. But my husband is not circumcised so that definitely affected our decision.

I am having another boy & will be getting him circumsized. I did w my 1st. My friends son did not have one done. However, her son got so many infections at 6 yrs old he had to have it circumsized. (she did try to teach him to pull the for skin back so it can be cleaned). Her oldest son had no problem being uncircumsized. When it's circumsized It is easier to clean, and lowers their risk of getting an STD later in life.

I was just asking because I didn't know it was such a debated thing I always thought that it was just the norm for the majority.

I as well is having a son he will be getting circumsized. I have been on both sides as I used to be a foster mother I have seen what happens when they get an infection and how hard it is on them when they are older to have it removed. And please don't tell me I am an aweful mom or I did this wrong with the infection the truth is we went down every path to fix the infection it just got to bad and that's what we had to do... I however respect which ever side any mom is on because that is up to them as the parent .. good luck and just do some research and ask around ..

People do it for various reasons. Preventing future illnesses and religious reasons as well. I personally am expecting my first son and will not circumcise; I got a lot of information from a couple of MDs and I've been checking online as well as talking to the men in my family. Which is how I arrived at my decision. You should check out all the info and wish you the best. Happy delivery.
