vaginal ultrasound?

Im pregnant with my first baby. Im not quite sure when my last period was exactly, so my doctor scheduled me for a vaginal ultrasound to be more accurate of how far along I am. Im just curious to see if anyone has any experience with this?

I had my first ultrasound today and it was a vaginal. Not very comfortable. I'm still kinda hurting from it but when we saw our little chipmunk and it's heart beat it was so exciting. He's a wormy one. They measured me to be right on cue with 10w4d . You'll do just fine

I've had so many of these you get use to it, this is my first pregnancy that is going great out of four that sadly didn't not make it. I have a tilted uterus so at times it's uncomfortable for me but it's not painful and they are usually quick about it. It's much better then a normal ultrasound because you get a better look at your little one :) I wouldn't worry.

I think they do them up to 12 weeks. They're not fun and not comfortable by any means but when you see the little one and its heartbeat you kind of get distracted at least for a little bit. They only take maybe 10-15 min?

Thanks ladies!  I appreciate all the feedback! I was going to go alone but now knowing that I have the chance of hearing the heart beat my boyfriend wants to come along too. We have our appointment next Wednesday wish us luck. We're super excited!

I was 9 weeks 5 days and they did an abdominal ultrasound but switched to a vaginal one to get a closer look at a cyst i have on my ovary.  They "didnt like the looks of it" so i had to do a do over to get a better look at the cyst.  it isnt painful just a bit awkward

No discomfort and totally normal. I've had 2 done, the first time it's a little weird but you get used to it. I went 2 weeks ago and I thought I was 11 weeks but baby measured at 9 wks 5 days. :-)

I went in for my first ultra sound at 6 weeks, I'm 10 now, and because I was so early they couldn't see anything on the external ultra sound so they went in. No pain. Not a whole lot different from how we got here in the first place. The only, almost upsetting, thing was because the facility was doing the ultra sound internally, their protocol didn't allow for my husband to come in. After asking a few times she let him in though. We got to see the heartbeat together. :-)

I too had an early (transvaginal) scan but found i was 10 wks already and saw a dancing baby, lol. There was heartbeat action but they didnt let us hear it, they said the scan was just to make sure everythings in place, nr of babies and workibg out a due date. My next scan is tmoro for 12 wks. I hope all goes well since i had a mmc in aug and fell pregnant shortly afterwards (hence no known last period).

I just had my first ultrasound Friday and it was vaginal. I guess it allows you a better picture of the baby. I heard the heartbeat as well and it was amazing! There's a little pressure but it wasn't painful or anything.

Well they estimated me at 8 weeks. My periods were also irregular so that's why I can't remember exactly when my lmp was?  I wasn't aware that I'd be hearing the heat beat. Thank you for that I'm excited now!!

Absolutely,  it's normal and there's no discomfort. My OB thought I was 11 weeks from calculating from my LMP and I'm normally irregular. They measured the baby and figured out I was only 9 weeks. And I heard the baby's heartbeat. It was wonderful.
