Headed to the pediatrician for shots ;(

I can't believe Leighton is already 4 months old.  I remember people saying how fast time goes once you have a child... but that is THE absolute truth!  I love watching her change, but wish she would change slower.

Anyway... we are off to the doctor this morning for her 4 month check up and shots.  I am really dreading the shots because she SCREAMED like I have never heard her scream before, the first time she had her shots.  So... not looking forward to this doctors appt.  Hope everyone has a good Wednesday!

Hey Amy...

Our pediatrician says not to substitute for formula, rather you are just supplementing with solids.  Does that make sense?  So, their primary nutrition is still formula or breast milk, but they are also getting nutrients from the solids.  He gave us this book he put together for first timers when she was first born, but I haven't really referenced it.  But, obviously, I will now.  :)  It says exactly what a feeding schedule should look like when you are introducing solids.  I am sure that is what your doc gave you, too.

We gave her cereal this afternoon and this evening... she loves it!  She opens her mouth and leans her head forward like "C'mon!!!  Put that spoon in already!"  It's hilarious!

I am excited to start Blake on solids! I think she will love it. I am waiting for Blake's 4 month appointment (which is actually 10 days after she is officially 4 months because her doctor is on maternity leave!) for the doctor to go over exactly what to do. I don't know where that leaves the bottles...do you substitute them for food?? I just have too many questions to do it on my own. Our pediatrician gave us a hand out on how to feed her solids but I lost it...oops. (I am kinda scatter brained when I go to the dr by myself..)

She did great.... cried as expected, but once the nurse was finished I scooped her up and she fell right to sleep in my arms.  Gosh it is sooo hard to watch them get those things!

She is a petite little thing, weighing in at a whopping 12 lbs. 8 oz. and 23.5 in long.  She is in the 20th percentile for height and the 25th for weight... so it looks like she is going to be tiny like her mommy was!!  haha...  as my dad put it "Looks like she is going to be a Little Megan."

As I was telling our pediatrician about her relux, she did it!  She had a major episode and he said "Yeah, if you are putting rice cereal in her bottles and she is still doing this, then it is time to start her on cereal."  We gave her rice cereal from a spoon last week and she LOVED it... so now we are to give her it 2 times a day.  Then, he wants us to begin introducing yellow veggies in 2-3 weeks and then green veggies shortly thereafter.  He says she is ready, so we are excited to indroduce some new and exciting things to her palate :)

I asked about waiting until 6 months and he said that is just a guideline, and not an exact date to begin solids.  He says that some babies show no interest in solids any sooner than 6 months, and if she had no interest then he wouldn't suggest beginning them now.  But, with her reflux he recommends us giving her cereal from a spoon.  I will post the photos of her eating cereal for the first time when I get a moment.  It was quite humorous!  By the way... we feed her naked now.  It's just soo much easier!

Oh I hate those appointments too. Good luck. Hopefully the screaming and crying will be short lived. I remember the first shots for us...the crying didn't last long but the fussiness lingered a bit. So needless to say I am not looking forward to Jack's next appointment.
