Once I found out I was pregnant I stopped the running and started power walking on the treadmill. However, instead of just walking for 30 minutes or so I choose the random feature so I go on steep inclines as well as flat ground. I keep the pace to a 3.0 or less so my heart rate doesn't get too high. I only go about 2 miles but I figure you get the cardio and the butt workout at the same time. If you are not much for the hill walking you can also get a couple of 3 pound weights to walk with. I sometimes do that too if I have been neglecting my arms. You can do bicep curls and some shoulder workouts too. It raises your heart rate so I would keep the pace pretty slow, but this way you can work a few muscle groups at once. I am all about consolidation, especially if I am short on time after work.
yeah, my midwife and doctor said that it is fine for me to go ahead and start walking again, expect they told me not to go for more than 30 minutes and to not make it too brisk. So... I am going to start walking again, but my freaking arms are getting huge (in my opinion!). I am thinking that I should invest in some dumb bells.
Oh... our dogs are 6 and 4 and still don't walk properly! Although, we really didn't leash train them since they are fine off the leash... but we have to leash them in the neighborhood. Thank goodness they are Bostons and weigh 20 and 30 lbs! hahaha
I walk with my husband and the dog for about an hour 2-3 times per week. It's not too brisk because our dog is a puppy and he kind of ***** in the walking dept.! I'll have to start hitting the treadmill again. I would jog/walk on the treadmill prior to pregnancy. I haven't been doing any toning or anything like that. I do have 10 lb. dumb bells that I used to use for toning my arms, but it's been a while!
